Faults:

Flywheel Sheered 6" from crackshaft in perfect circle.

Flywheel cracked and caused cracked block and transmission bell housing.

General Comments:

I was wondering if anybody else has had this problem and what the cause was.

The transmission was replaced before buying the vehicle as told to me by the dealer.

The first problem occurred after being driven approx 500 miles. The second problem occured after being driven approx 500-1000mi.

When flywheel cracked the second time it wobbled and broke off about a 6" piece off the top of the bell housing and 3" piece of the engine block.

Faults:

I have had mostly routine things go wrong, with a few exceptions such as the idler motor and the fuel injection train (covered under a recall) Other than that the car has been the best car I have ever owned, bar none.

General Comments:

I have had very few problems with the car that could not be attributed to normal wear and tear. I change the oil every 3,000 miles and the Transmission fluid every 25,000, and I believe those 2 simple preventative maintenance actions have contributed to the drive train being original with 266,000 miles. No oil burning, no transmission problems, ever. Still has great power, and I don't hesitate to take it on long trips. I have a Colorado pickup now also, so I don't drive it as much as I used to, but I still like to take it out a couple of times every week. I have owned a lot of cars from Jaguar, Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Nissan, and Oldsmobile, and I can honestly say this is my favorite car from an all-around aspect. The Jag was the most fun to drive, but it spent more time on a hoist than on the rubber. The Aurora has never left me stranded in 6 years and almost 200,000 miles, something I dare say not many cars can say.

Faults:

Car will not start or even crank.

All electrical appear to be in working order; chimes, lights, wipers and windows etc. does operate.

General Comments:

I bought this car a week ago and it did not run (first mistake). I bought a new battery $200.00, all the lights, horn, wipers, windows etc. work fine, but the engine will not crank or run at all. I do hear the fuel pump kick in and maybe a click under the hood, but no crank or turn over. I was told the previous owners floored the vehicle in neutral before the repossession man showed up, causing the engine to seize up. If this is true, when I turn on the engine to run and turn the headlights on, would the stay bright? They do not dim at all; this leads me to believe it is the starter not making proper connection. I have also tried turning the harmonic balancer with a breaker bar-does not turn at all. Do I need to do something special on this heavy engine to help make it turn easier.. do I need key on or car in neutral or a spark plug removed.
