1995 Oldsmobile Aurora LX 4.0L

Summary:

This is a great car that was overlooked, by the public under promoted and not truly appreciated.,

Faults:

The Cd player went kaput after first year I had car. We had an extended warranty and it was replaced no cost, no problem. This CD is still in car working 4 years later.

The coils for the ignition went out at 52000 miles. They were replaced and the car tuned up, cost $635.00. Never failed again.

The fuel sending unit and pump died at 96,000. It was replaced at a cost of $485.00. AT 172,845 still going.

The transmission failed at 127,340 miles. Most likely due to the fact we never serviced it. Somehow forgot. Pretty dumb. Cost me $3850.00. Replaced water pump and all seals (voluntary) since it was cheaper to do it then. Everything works fine, seals still good.

Needed a master cylinder at 128,000. $235.00. No big deal.

Fuel Rail leak at 165,000. Replaced. Received recall paperwork from Olds, applied for rebate.

General Comments:

I love this car.

The car is responsive, although not the best handling (soft) it is no slouch if you know how to drive.

Brakes good.

Quiet and smooth.

Still gets 21-24 mpg still at 172,000 miles. Not bad for a 4400 pound car.

Great sound system.

As far as speed, put your foot in it if you don't believe. I know many BMW owners who are now believers.

Too bad GM didn't stop producing Buick's instead.

Very well written. I own a 95 and absolutely love it. I had rented one back in 97 and wanted one every since. I found a very well maintained and well taken care of car. Basically spotless except for the 164000 miles on it. I was intrigued to see that the fuel rail going out @ 165000 did'nt just happen to me. I'm curious to how I apply for the rebate. Just took it on a short trip from Phoenix AZ. to Las Vegas NV. There's some pretty nice roads in between and found myself running quite fast with a BMW 5 serious & a Toyota Celica. My problem came when they pulled away from me @ 110 miles per hour due to the olds shutting down. Can I change this?

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0L V8 244 cubic inches

Summary:

I love this car and will keep it running as long as I can

Faults:

Master Cylinder went at 70000.

Tires are frequently replaced.

Radiator replaced at 120000.

Speed Sensor went out at 125000.

Seat Belts and Fuel Rail construction fixed at GM's expense.

Car wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear unless very gentle with rpms, lead to

Transmission Solenoid replaced at 135000.

Fuel pump and water pump at around 90000.

Now it leaks transmission fluid at 140000 about two quarts every 1500 miles.

General Comments:

The car is very quick and with overdrive off can really move.

Repairs are costly, but worth every nickel.

The car is extremely comfortable, especially with the heated seats in the winter.

The sound system is awesome with the Bose system and is crystal clear.

Gas mileage for me is 27mpg on the highway at 70mph and about 18mpg in town.

These cars may not hold their value as nicely as other cars, but the cars are fun, sporty and worth it.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 liter

Summary:

I hated it, It hated me

Faults:

Transmission slams into gear when shifting.$2500. Rack was going out on the steering $2500. Replaced Two motor mounts $800. air condition compressor

$2000. Window molding around rear window $800.Trunk/fuel buttons on dash replaced twice $140.Transmission module replaced $340. Water pump $500.Remote door openers never work will when close to car. Car seem to always run hot.

General Comments:

This car always drove very nice, but much to expensive to repair. I think GM should never released this car until it was tested better. I don't think any one should buy one of these no matter the price.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0L DOHC 32 V V8

Summary:

Flaming fireball on wheels

Faults:

Seat Belt problems (warranty)

Master Cylinder leak at 49,000.

Cracked Engine mounts, new engine at 57,000M.

Wiring harness, coolant leaks at 55,000.

Cruise control problems at 60,000.

Various fuel pumps 60,000 - 80,000.

Missing/surging problems 60,000 - to date (still not fixed)

Fuel injector problems 82,000.

Engine Mount broken and Transmission replaced 84,000.

Rack and pinion bindings replaced 109,000.

Radiator replaced 121,000.

Fuel Leak - 143,000 (GM says is not under recall)

General Comments:

This has been the single most disappointing car I have ever owned. Have spent over $5,000 to date on this lemon. Now GM tells me that my car, which has the fuel leak (as noted per NHTSA Recall #04V110000), is not covered in the recall.

The original draft recall issued in March 2004 included the 1995 Auroras. Then, when the "final" recall was issued in June 2004, the 1995 year was excluded. GM will not explain the reason for this. Basically 1995 owners are driving potentially flaming fireballs that will cost over $700 to fix.

Has anyone else run into the recall problem?

The Auroras are an awesome car! It seems as though you got a lemon. There are ways of fighting GM on the recall. Also, since you're internet savvy, check on the class action lawsuits regarding Dex Cool, the crappy orange anti-freeze they used.

I just bought a '95, and already own a '98. I joined a great on-line group: http://aurorah.proboards.com/

Look into the group! I look forward to following your progress. I don't know if they will let me post my email here or edit it out: ted.copeland1@verizon.net

But try to keep me updated.

The love/hate relationship with GM continues!...
