1999 Oldsmobile Aurora 4.0 V8 Northstar

Summary:

Reliable, few problems until now, enjoy car

Faults:

Driver's window intermittently works, dealer fixed, but continues to have problems.

Transmission indicator always shows 100,000 miles, hasn't dropped since I bought the car, maybe transmission fluid needs replacing, but the dealer can't tell me what's wrong with indicator...

Recently, when the car is off, open door and chime sounds like key is is ignition -- also when I shut the door and set the alarm, perimeter lights and panel lights flash off and on constantly -- a rapid clicking of some relay under dash is prob to blame. I've tried to trickle-charge the battery overnight for 12 hours, but it's dead in morning after 12 hours. I'm at a loss. Help please, any postings would be appreciated.. Does anyone out there think I have a wiring short, or a bad relay?

General Comments:

The Aurora is everything I would want in a car, it's fun and comfortable to drive, nothing like driving at night with the moonroof open on a long trip with Steely Dan playing on the excellent stereo system... Nothing like freedom... What a pleasurable escape from time to time... Enjoy!

Excellent performance and luxury.. Instrument panel is like an airplane cockpit!! All gauges visible wiht hands at the 10 o'clock/2/o'clock driving position..

Very impressed wtih the car, paid $7500 cash -- sticker price was around $38,000 -- I bought it for 22% of what it sold for new... I was pleased....

I had the same problem with my 1999 Aurora.. the fix is incredibly simple... There is too much "goo" on the steering column which has gotten on the relays. My husband fixed with a can of air and a can of contact cleaner from the auto store. He peeled back the soft rubber surrounding the lever for the turn signal... used a flashlight to see the little circles that had crud on them, sprayed the cleaner and then the air to dry them. Took him a couple of times of clean / dry and no more problems! He did it over a year ago and I haven't had any trouble since.

Summary:

I'm keeping it as long as I can

Faults:

The only problem I've ever had with this car is that the right window is a little shaky now; the wiring must need to fixed.

General Comments:

This is my favorite car that I've ever owned. Every part of this car screams luxury, and it outperforms a lot of luxury sedans I've driven.

It's fast too, and has a trans-reform button that makes it shift at higher rpms for quicker speeds.

I wish they kept making these, they deserve so much more credit.

The Aurora is an excellent car. It's a crying shame that the

Big Dopes at GM refused to realize that!!!

Summary:

Classy and truly one of a kind

Faults:

Currently I am experiencing troubles with my 1998 baby I am getting a tapping noise from my starter and flywheel. I also am experiencing a transmission leak and don't know why.

Please help.

General Comments:

Other than the problems listed this car is truly one of a kind I am truly in love. I never would have thought a car this big would drive so smooth and considering the North-star 4.0 v8 engine it is remarkably fast. This car is truly one of a kind. I would highly recommend this car to someone, it gives me a special feeling every time I open my drivers door.

I had what was thought to be a transmission leak too, but turned out to be antifreeze. Check that out, you might be experiencing the same what I went trough. Dexcool is redish in color and can resemble trans fluid.
