1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser 3.3L V6

Summary:

Great car that keeps on running, very few minor repairs

Faults:

At 80,000 miles, the spark plug wires and a coil needed to be replaced.

At 110,000 miles, the starter died and had to be replaced.

The headliner fell down because the glue was giving out, but I glued it back up.

Plastic seat belt buckles broke off, but the seat belts are still functional. Seems like the plastic gets brittle after a while, so plastic things start to break.

General Comments:

This thing had been super reliable, and I would highly recommend this car to anyone. It's a big boat, so it doesn't handle very well, but it's got lots of room and storage.

A lot of the little plastic pieces like the seat belt buckles are falling apart, but it doesn't bother me, as it's my work horse.

My grandfather had one go over 300,000 miles before it finally died.

1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL 2.8L

Summary:

If I could still buy this car brand new, I would do it all over again!

Faults:

Dash design flaw; dash curls and buckles with minimum exposure to sun and heat, replaced twice during first 36 months.

General Comments:

Over all excellent vehicle, if I had realized how dependable, economical and comfortable this car would be for me I would have bought a matched pair.

I am a serious motor head and though this car isn't in the same class as the many muscle cars I've owned over the years, for a 6 cyl it is quick and responsive which is note worthy considering the body size and weight.

I am surprised at how often I see these Cutlasses on the road and for sale (often with over 300k kms). They seem to last a long time. And don't seem to rust too bad, even in salty Ontario.

1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass international 2.8

Summary:

Make me another one like this one...PLEASE

Faults:

At a 181,000+ mile record, not too much, let see.

A hose, battery, water pump, clutch, heater core, CV joint,... and a bunch of tires, and a couple of brake jobs. Wow. What a bang for the buck.

General Comments:

This has been the longest lasting car I ever owned, and the most pleasure. And it handles the road like a champ, and a 2.8L, 5 speed manual shift that just will not give up.

Too bad old age has set in. It is not looking as young as is ounce did, with the small rust spots, and the car that hit me in the side at 40MPH right in the drivers door a few years back (I'm just fine, thanks to this car).

With a 181,000, I sure got my value out of it, but with now the gas tank leaking, exhaust system needing total replacment. I think it's time to part, and find it a new owner.

You'll never be able to get another one of these. You have

General Motors' stupidity to thank for that.

Hello,

I own a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International Series with 116000+ miles on it. It is a great car and I love it. I too am pissed with General Motors discontinuing the Oldsmobile. When my Olds passes on, I am buying any car brand besides GM. I was offered $2,000 for my car today and I know that I simply cannot find another automobile as comfortable and luxurious as this one. I have a 3.1 V6 automatic engine in mine and this baby is as quiet as a mouse! My car has no rust and looks like it was just purchased!

1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass International FE3 2.8

Summary:

Eh, could be better or worse

Faults:

Alternator went at 104,000.

Starter went around 104000, also.

Clutch gave out at 110000.

Needs front and rear struts and plates (I'm told this is common).

Tie rod ends need replaced.

Brakes and rotors needed.

MUCH, MUCH more needed.

General Comments:

I love the comfort this car provides.

It handles well.

The speedometer works when it wants to.

Engine light on-runs fine.

Engine light off-runs horribly.

No one can seem to figure this out.
