Faults:

My Cruise Control vacuum went out at 151000.

Paint on roof is terrible, just scratched in other places, looks nice at night...

Catalytic converter is loose and rattles when idle, must tighten, no biggie.

Just did a tune up, did the thermostat, hoses, plugs, and wires.

I put Double Platinum Plugs in.

When purchased, Air Conditioning was found to be non functional because the previous owner had half-converted the A/C from 12-134 and did not finish, had to remove the fuse because it was making a horrible metal clanking sound every 5 seconds.

Makes a cracking sound caused by bad bearings in the belt wheel on the Power Steering.

General Comments:

This car is so powerful!!! It is amazing, the car's specs say that it has 160 Horsepower, it really feels like it has significantly more than that.

The interior is PERFECT! The seats have not one rip, not faded, VERY comfortable.

Faults:

Over the years many minor items have gone, but the engine and transmission are amazing. I still get people who can't believe how many kilometers she has.

I have changed the alternator a couple times, the coil packs have all been changed, and one just went for the second time.

The front wheel bearings are new (one was just fixed on Thursday the other within the last year).

The computer module went around 350,000 kilometers.

In the last year she required a tune up and she has performed amazingly ever since.

I just had new tires put on 4 days ago and she drives like she was brand new.

Other than regular maintenance the car has performed well above expectations.

My Uncle bought her new, my dad then bought her and she was passed down to me 3 years ago, although I had been driving her since 1999.

The only draw back is the rust. My dad has taken her in many times to be repaired, but their comes a point when you could fix rust all the time and never get anywhere. I almost sold her a year ago, but couldn't do it, and while I was indecisive, the other car (a 1989 Buick Century) was sold, so my mind was made up for me.

I just wish they made them like this today.

Faults:

The brake pads, even lifetime pads, needed to be replaced about every 9 months, due to a brake system design defect. After about three years of this I had my mechanic install the rebuild kit that was available.

The dashboard did buckle after a few years, but nothing major. I glued and clamped it back down. This helped a lot.

The key-less entry quit working after about four years.

The electronic control module went bad around 45,000 miles. It was covered under warranty.

The dashboard electronics went bad around 90,000 miles, had it replaced.

The factory paint used on the car has been chipping and peeling ever since the car was a couple of years old.

The air-conditioner quit working within 50,000 miles. I had it replaced for around $650.00. It lasted one season, probably through the fault of the dealership that installed it.

The steering wheel controls for the climate control and stereo wore out less than 50,000 miles, but still work on occasion.

Replaced the alternator around 130,000 miles.

Replaced the battery around 140,000 miles.

Rear leaf springs wore out at around 140,000 miles.

Still have the original exhaust system in great condition.

General Comments:

This car is 15 years old. I have had it 14 years. It now belongs to my 16 year old son.

It has had a few flaws, the brakes, the dashboard, the paint, etc. But, this car has been an unbelievable piece of equipment. With regular maintenance such as regularly scheduled oil changes and transmission tune-ups, it has been extremely dependable.

This car has been the most cost efficient car that I have ever heard of. The engine still looks like new. It runs great. It gets great gas mileage. And other than the paint, it is in great condition.

The body is starting to rust a bit. And even though she's seen a few fender benders, she's survived it all with barely a scratch. I have confidence in knowing my child is driving a safe, dependable car, and I have confidence that she can handle a 16 year old driver.
