2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue GL

Summary:

The more mileage the more issues!

Faults:

Crank sensor had to be replaced.

Tie rods had to be replaced.

Passenger door does get stuck at times.

General Comments:

I have been satisfied with the driving performance on my 2000 olds intrigue. I unfortunately did have to have the crank sensor replaced since my car was turning off 10 minutes or so after driving it in the winter. It also had to have the tie rods replaced fortunately covered thru the extended warranty. I now have an issue with some noise under my passengers seat when I'm driving I have to take it into the dealer to check what the problem is. I am having another issue now my car is turning off sporaticly when I'm driving for no apparent reason. My serive engine light comes on and my wheels lock it takes a few minutes and it will turn back on. I did take it to the dealer, but they claimed nothing is wrongs. Its been 5 days since I took it in and today it turned off again this time it turned off for about 20 minutes before being able to turn on. I am extremely concerned that my car will just die out on the expressway. Now I have to schedule another appointment with the dealer to find out what the problem is. I do recommend the extended warranty for anyone with this vehicle so far all I've had to pay is a 25.00 deductible all repairs have been covered. If anyone has had this issue with their 2000 olds intrigue please comment back and let me know your experience.

I own a 2001 Intrigue and for about 20,000 miles I had the same problem with the car effectively turning off as though the ignition switch was turned off. I was about to replace the ignition switch in a couple of days, when I went to a friend to have him check the computer to see if it was showing any diagnostic problems. I was told that if the SERVICE ENGINE light was not on, that nothing would show up. After explaining my problem, I was advised that it could be a bad ground connection somewhere. I immediately took the car home and checked the ground connection (where the negative post is grounded) just under the battery at the chassis and found it slightly loose. I cleaned the terminal off thoroughly and re-tightened the bolt and have not had a problem since! I found out that this is also the ground for the on board computer and is a critical ground connection.

Good value, if this fault is a fluke

Faults:

The transmission had to be re-built at 20 000KM.

The transmission had to be replaced at 37 000KM.

General Comments:

I really like this car. It handles very well especially at highway speeds.

It's comfortable and the fit and finish is as good as any GM model.

However, almost since my wife drove it off the lot it had a problem. From a stop it would sometimes seem to rev up then lurch ahead. Last summer we took it to the dealer. We got the usual "we can't find a problem" blarney from the service manager. A call to the owner and GM Canada Customer Service and the service manager agreed to keep it for a month while we were on vacation.

They found what they thought to be the problem and re-built the transmission.

All was well for about six months then it started "lurching" again. The last month as we were about to leave the grocery I shifted into reverse, the whole car seemed to jump in the air... then nothing; no reverse, no forward, nothing.

We had it towed back to the dealer who agreed to replace the transmission with a brand new one on warranty.

Now, I've no complaints about that however the fact they did it without much fuss makes me wonder if GM knows something about these transmissions it's not sharing.

I hope the transmission was just a fluke, the kind of thing that's inevitable when you make a million widgets a day. Fingers crossed.

I had a similar problem with my 1999 GLS. We got the dealership to fix it because I was barely over the 1000 mile mark. It was the crankshaft sensor. Has anyone looked into that yet? just curious. It didn't show up in sensor tests either, but when I had it replaced it fixed the problem.
