2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette 6-passenger 3.4 liter V6
Summary:
Most dependable, versatile, and comfortable vehicles I have ever owned
Faults:
The main computer had to be replaced at 85,000 miles.
The knock sensor had to be replaced at 85,000 miles.
The rear head gasket blew at 85,000 miles.
Tuned up at 85,000 miles while the engine was apart.
The third brake light burnt out at 82,500 miles.
Performed a tune-up at 85,000 miles while the engine was apart.
General Comments:
I have not had this vehicle very long, but this is my third dust-buster model. As you can see by the above, there was some catch up work performed once the vehicle came into my possession.
I owned a 1991 Lumina APV (3.1 liter V6) that I personally put over 100,000 miles on.
I also had a 1995 Pontiac Transport (3.8 liter V6) that I could never keep ahead of the problems. The transport simply wasn't cared for properly by the prior owner and nearly everything (engine, transmission, brakes, and steering) began to fail.
The key to these vehicles is preventative service. Changing the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, changing the transmission and radiator fluids every 50,000 miles, and allowing the dealer to check and adjust the engine computer every 25,000 miles will keep these vans on the road forever.
The Oldsmobile is by far the most comfortable of the three that I have owned. The full leather interior and 4 captains' chairs feel more like a large car than a van.
The remote power sliding doors come in very handy.
The rear stereo and climate controls are very nice to have and make everyone in the comfortable.
I am hoping to find a 2004 Premier edition in a couple years so that I don't have to worry about not having one of these gems for a long time.
I do miss the side front windows that gave it the aircraft styling.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Update from owner. At 89,000 the rack started going out and had to be replaced. I have heard this is about the right time for this item to fail. I'm not sure what will be next, but I'm still very much enjoying the vehicle.
