Faults:

WAY UNDER POWERED!!

I was honestly scared to drive this car on the interstate. Merging onto a highway with a speed limit of 65, I would floor the car and hope to not get ran over.

This seemed to be a chronic problem with Plymouth, Dodge and Chrysler products of the mid-to-late '90s.

The gauge cluster would periodically stop working; the only cure I found was disconnecting the battery.

Burned oil like a BEAST!

To replace the battery, one would need to remove the wheel and wheel well (but it had jumping external terminals up top, which is where I would disconnect the battery).

Timing chain slipped at 167,000.

General Comments:

May have been a decent car when it was new. But, the miles have REALLY taken a toll on it.

It had a pretty good ride. And it sported a good amount of room. I was comfortable; I'm almost 6 foot and over 250 lbs.

It would randomly lock and unlock the doors when it shifted gears.

The transmission was always rough.

Because of the car's weight and design, it held its own very well when passing semi's head-on on a two lane highway.

The headliner had fallen (and been thumb tacked back up), but otherwise the cloth interior was in good shape. No rips or tears.

The cup holders were poorly placed, and were unable to hold a 32 oz or larger cup.

The fuel economy was just shy of what the book said it should be. I got 26.5-27; www.fueleconomy.gov says it should get 28.

Faults:

Front driver's side smoking.

A/C poor at best.

Automatic locks don't work.

Dome light doesn't work when the driver's door is opened.

Cracked engine mounts.

Tranny hose leaking.

Idles loudly.

Car shakes.

Hard to get up to speed and sways at 70 mph.

General Comments:

When I first got this car, I was super excited because it was low mileage (58,000), and it was only $3,000.00, which I thought was a steal. The AC worked just fine and the power windows were good too. It was a couple months in that my mechanic realized that 2 of the 3 engine mounts were cracked. While this was a cheap fix, it took 4 days simply because of where the mounts were.

While he was fixing the engine mounts, he realized that transmission fluid was leaking straight through the hose coming from the tranny. I went to three different auto stores and a Chrysler dealership, and none of them had the piece that I needed without having to buy a whole new transmission kit. I had to go to a store and find tubing and a clamp, and my mechanic jerry rigged the hose.

The air conditioning is poor, but it works.

The automatic locks don't work.

When I open the drivers side door at night, the dome light doesn't come on, but when the passenger side opens, it does.

When I am sitting at a light with my foot on the brake, the car shakes so violently that it shakes my steering wheel. While I'm in a drive through, I have to put myself in park or else the knocking noise that comes from the engine is so loud that I can barely hear the person I'm talking to.

Just this morning, my front driver's side has started to smoke. The heat gauge is under the halfway mark, and I drove less than five minutes at about 65 mph. I have no idea what is going on yet, but I'm sure that I will end up having to spend lots of money to fix it.

I would not recommend buying this car. While it seemed like a good deal at the time, it has been nothing but problems.
