Faults:

2 Thermostats (necessary)

Changed head gasket/timing belt (not necessary)

Added custom exhaust (not necessory)

Changed all 4 strutts (necessary)

Changed rear brake drums once (necessary)

Changed all 4 brakes once (necessary)

Changed front brake hoses once (necessary)

General Comments:

I love this car! With the exhaust change, timing change

I average almost 53 miles per gallon! I hit this if I am nice. This has a 5 speed manual and some times I jump on it, and this 1.8L hauls! I still average 40+ MPG with the custom exhaust and timing adjustments. I have put almost nothing in this car since I owned it. Up till 2005 I drove 77 miles per day X5 days for work. Now I do 20 per day. Car does not smoke, shake rattle or roll.

It shakes a little at 105 MPH, after that it smooths out.

Was only able to hit 125 MPH then had to hit the brakes and down shift due to traffic. I know it will do 150 easy.

I love this car! I wished they made more, I'd buy a new one.

1993 Plymouth Colt 4.0

Summary:

Great car for the money

Faults:

After owning the car a couple of year's, it started to have a tough time starting and olny after it was warmed up would run properly.

The car will not start at all now, seems to not be getting fuel.

Seat belts on both sides are broken.

General Comments:

Other than the problems listed above, the car has been an incredible value. However at this point after having the fuel injectors pulled and cleaned twice and the engine rebuilt once, I am at a loss of what to do for it next. I really love my little Colt!

I am having the same problem! My god, its amazing. Check your ECU. Look at the ECU diagnostic codes. Mine is throwing the same codes regarding the fuel delivery system, but I am begining to think it may be the computer.

1993 Plymouth Colt SE 1.8

Summary:

Dependable, low maintenance, good looking car

Faults:

Regular maintenance such as brakes, hoses.

I did however have problems with the belts. I believe that over time the belts stretched and came off the pulley. I check them on a regular basis now, but that was 2 years ago and it hasn't happened since.

I had a problem with over heating after driving 100 km or so, but when I pulled to the side of the road and let the motor cool down then I could drive again. It seemed that anything over 80 km per hour would make it over heat. I have since changed the flex hose and replaced the thermostat. I have not driven any great distance yet so I'm not sure if I have corrected the problem.

General Comments:

My Plymouth Colt is very different. It is not really a van although it looks like one. We have nick named it Wannabe. I have never seen another like it. I would like to know if anyone out there has one.

I think it is a great car. It is good on gas and very reliable.

It is not a car or a station wagon. It is a very small van and therefore it carries lots of odd things that one could not place in a car.

I will keep it for as long as I can because it is well worth the money for up keep.

I believe we have the same car. I sometimes consider mine a small minivan, especially with the sliding side door and all. I've only seen one other like it since I bought mine. I bought it as a winter car so that I didn't have to drive my Porsche through the snow and salt. So far it's been great on gas and not a lot has gone wrong with it. Two things I noticed are, a knocking sound in the front end when I go over bumps, and it smells like gasoline after I drive it. Neither of which I can figure out, but it keeps on ticking. At this point, if it died, I'd just switch back to the Porsche. (not a big sacrifice)
