Faults:

I own a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE with Flex Fuel. This van has been great, lots of room and very comfortable.

Did regular maintenance, changing fluids and filters when needed. But over the last two years I have had some hard times with it.

We had the transmission rebuilt at 86000, could have gone longer if I changed the filter more than once.

Had the Computer go out in the car at 92000 miles; the van would not start, all the gauges worked, battery was good, had the starter checked, they were all good. Then sent it to the dealer who said it was the computer, spent 200 dollars on a refurbished one.

Van ran fine until... Now at 97000 miles the same problem has come up and I don't know what to do. All the gauges light up, the battery checks good, and again the same with the starter. Checked all of the fuses, 2 different starter fuses; who would have guessed but both are good.

So I have a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager that won't start. I don't want to take it to the dealer again, but I think it might be my only option.

Faults:

The rear lock for the liftgate wouldn't unlock with the power door locks or the key (repaired under warranty), the clips that hold the visors are broken, there are paint chips and touch-ups on the body, and there is a distinct popping sound when you crank the wheel (my thought is either a ball joint or a tie rod end).

General Comments:

It's my mom's van, and like I said before it's a base model, so as far as features go, well, it has an engine, windows, headlights, and seats. Oh, we did take out the factory tape deck, and put a CD/Cassette player from a 98 Avenger in it. I also forgot it does have power door locks. However, it has the 3.3L V6, and it runs on E-85 which is awesome. Can you say $.1.85 for petro? Other advantages are, it's better on the environment, the van actually runs better on it than regular unleaded, and MY van is a 91 Grand Caravan the same motor, except mine isn't E-85 compatible, and my mom's gets better MPG. The only disadvantage to flex fuel, is most places require a credit card to buy it. Even though the van is purple, I do like the the Amethyst Pearlcoat Paint. To make a long story short, it doesn't have many features, but it pays for itself in gas, and it's reliable as hell.

Faults:

Transmission was re-built at 98,000 miles. This was done at the discretion of the dealer. I was never stranded.

A/C Compressor changed at the same mileage.

Passenger rear vent motor replaced at 170,000 miles.

Drivers window motor replaced at 188,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is as good a vehicle as I have owned. I'm not going to say that everyone of these vehicles will work as well as mine has, but hey, mine did. I change the oil every 3K miles and the air fliter every six months. I have maintained all other items per the specified schedule. I did give the van a tune up last week. Slightly ahead of the 100K mark, but I thought it better to do so now. I plan on running it over 200K...

It's comfortable, drives well, gas mileage could be better. Has been a real workhorse for the family. I'd like to find out how Pacific Rim vans fare in comparison...
