1992 Plymouth Laser RS 2.0 Non Turbor

Summary:

A run for fun vehicle

Faults:

Had to put a rebuilt 2.0 engine in this vehicle.

The transmission slips.

All the audio speakers are busted.

Seats have started to wear.

The temperature is running high even after changing the water pump.

Will replace temperature sensor.

General Comments:

This car is very quick and handles well on the road. However the blind spots are a major concern. So I'll be adding blind spot mirrors. I also on a 1992 Mitsubishi Eclipse car. The Eclipse has a 1.8 engine in it. The reason for purchasing the Laser is the joy of driving the Eclipse. The 2.0 engine in the Laser really rocks and puts a smile on face. I have heard Honda and other talk negative about these cars. But when the rubber meets the vehicles hold their own. If someone purchases the Laser and put the time in for the repairs. They will enjoy the benefits of driving this car. In my case I paid $700 & $800 for two vehicles. Some would say they where not worth it. I say drive them and then you tell me. If you can't afford a muscle car then purchase any these models.

I have enjoyed my Plymouth Laser RS, but I have had problems with the alternator. And, I have had engine problems as far as the belts whining. Other than that, this car is a fast vehicle. I enjoy it very much.

I bought my 1992 Plymouth Laser RS AWD turbo in 1999. It had just over 100000 miles. Soon as I drove it, I knew it was the car for me. I paid $3700 in 1999, out the door. It's now May 2, 2008 and I am still pleased with the car. I look at newer cars but haven't found anything better than 24 MPG, high performance and great handling. Of course I've put $$$ into it over the years. In 2006 at approximately 168,000, I put in a rebuilt long block and transmission; total cost something over 3K, well worth the $$$. Until something better comes along, I'll be sticking with my Laser. BTW, I believe the timing belt should be replaced every 60,000 miles. Check owners manual.

1992 Plymouth Laser RS 8 Cyllinder turbo Eagle Talon

Summary:

A great car, for a great price!

Faults:

There is an oil leak in the engine. I had it fixed, it turned out that I just had a bad seal, and it (the engine) was under warranty, so it cost nothing to fix.

I found a dead mouse in the rear trans axle. Removed it.

General Comments:

This particular car has an brand new eagle talon 8 cylinder engine in it, that makes very fast and powerfull.

The car gets about 725 km. on 1 tank of gas. The gas tank holes about 45 litres!

The car has great handling! the steering is great, even at high speeds!

1992 Plymouth Laser RS 2.0 turbo

Summary:

A great V8-like powered car for a good price

Faults:

The person I bought the car from blew his engine by revving the engine up to 9000, with the timing out of whack. So he replaced the engine and turbo.

The brakes needed reservicing.

The hydraulic hatch rods need to be replaced and don't stay up on their own.

General Comments:

Despite the repairs (my friend who blew the engine, paid for everything), this car is like driving a rocket with wheels! I blow the doors of off Camaros, 5 Litre Mustangs, and most other V-8 powered muscle cars out there!

God bless those beautiful Japanese people for once again proving that Japanese engineering is better than North American engineering!

I have had no problems with the car since the engine was replaced.

Where else can you get 0 to 60 times in the 6 second range for only 3500 bucks?

I love blowing past all those Honda boys with their dumb exhaust extensions.

The handling is fantastic and it feels like they are Z-rated tires, and the ones I have are only V-rated!

I love the interior. It is very ergonomic and logical.

I'm not crazy about the lack of leg and headroom in the backseat, but then again, since I'm the driver, what do I care? ^_^

You know, Plymouth at one time back in the day, made some awesome V-8 powered muscle cars, you should respect that not diss it, they made some old trashy looking whips that would blow the doors off of those same Mustangs and Camaros.
