1995 Plymouth Neon Highline 2.0 liter 4 cylinder

Summary:

A seemingly budget sensitive solution at first glance, however do yourself a favor - JUST SAY NO

Faults:

Trunk lock keeps sticking.

Head gasket failure, which I am finding out is an engineering defect that will occur with almost all Neon's - if it hasn't happened to you yet it will so tuck a $1000 away for when it does (I have seen this on more than one Neon).

Air vent on the passenger side dashboard pops out on its own (I have seen this on more than one Neon).

Brakes will never quiet down completely, they always squeak for the first few minutes of driving (I have seen this on more than one Neon).

General Comments:

Do not buy older Neon's.

Do not buy older Neon's.

Do not buy older Neon's.

Just in case you didn't understand me.

Do not buy older Neon's.

I bought one for $2500 with high miles.. that looked brand new.. nice little airfoil.. cherry red..appeared to drive OK no smoking etc.. then after 2 weeks.. engine mounts..clunk..then oil cam went thru block.. gushing oil..500 dollars repair.. then overheated after water pump.went..another 300.and heads are bad.. now dead in the water.. this car makes a slot machine at Vegas look like a united way charity!

I won't sell it because I don't want anyone else going through the same.. I am junking it..stay away from it..

If you get a good older Neon they will last you forever. We have 2 1995 Neons. (one was built within the first month of production) and they both have over 200,000 miles and are still ticking along.

The interiors are in great shape (besides the stains) and the exterior looks almost brand new (except for scratches and fadeness on the trunklid a little).

I'm planning on buying a few more of these little Neons within the next couple of months.

I also have a '95 neon. I must have gotten the luck of the draw because my car has been anything, but a lemon. Every now and then she gives me a problem, but its nothing major and is easily and cheaply fixed. I'm so happy I chose this car over a grand prix!

I bought a '95 Plymouth Highline 4 door 5 speed manual two years old with 50,000 on it. It was getting 45 mpg when I got it, and I just got rid of it in '06. It had over 400,000 on it. Original engine, tranny, alternator and clutch.

No complaints on this little burner. The only issue was the timing belt (which bent all of the valves) when it broke. I am a mechanic, so I was able to do all of the work myself.

The other issue was the head gaskets, but to work on this car was the simplest one out there! Couldn't be happier with it!

Summary:

Fun to drive, cheap to own, Neon is a winner

Faults:

Head gasket, O2 sensor, plastic seat belt sheath, peeling wiper arm paint, tranny flare.

General Comments:

Wonderful car. Start & Go; no worries. Head gasket done for $100. Front brakes lasted 79,000 miles. Fun to drive, fun to own; too bad they killed the coupe.

1995 Plymouth Neon Highline 2.0 liter

Faults:

The head gasket went at 39k miles. The dealer told me that they are known to go on the 95 Neons. They explained that the gaskets were made out of a composite instead of metal and that they can't withstand the heat and pressure. The Chrysler Corp. knew they wouldn't work, but they used up the composite gaskets before they started installing the metal gaskets. What gets me is it's not a recall because it's not life threatening! Also, had to replace the oxygen sensors and had a problem with the computer.

General Comments:

I would never buy another automobile that is made by the Chrysler Corp. and I wouldn't recommend that anyone else do so either.

Daimler-Chrysler has been making quality cars for years. The 1995 Plymouth Neon Sport Coupe will smoke the crap out of Chevy 350's on it's worst day. The only car that's beaten me was a Honda GSR thing. Oh, and there was that Plymouth Roadrunner with a hopped-up 440 wedge, but that's almost 8 liters versus a whopping 2. This car rules the earth with an iron fist!
