1989 Plymouth Sundance 2.5

Summary:

Great, Economical and fun car

Faults:

Replaced right rear wheel cylinder.

Automatic seat-belts don't work.

General Comments:

This car is fun to drive! It's not real fast, but it is "Quick"

For having 180,000 miles it is in great condition!

Makes a great first car!

1989 Plymouth Sundance

Summary:

A piece of junk

Faults:

The first problem was that the fuel pump went out on the car.

During the time that the fuel pump went out, so did the timing belt.

And a week later the flywheel broke on the car.

Also the seats are torn on the car.

Keep in mind I have only owned the car myself for 3 weeks.

General Comments:

I don't like this car and I would never purchase another car like this one. I have a 1979 Ford Thunderbird and it runs so much better than the Sundance although the body is falling apart on it.

I also owned a Plymouth Acclaim and it was wonderful, I can't understand why the Sundance is no good. I would not recommend that car to anyone.

1989 Plymouth Sundance RS 2.5L

Summary:

A high performance bargain.. yeah right haha

Faults:

Not much has gone wrong with this car which is pretty amazing concidering it is a Chrysler product (prone to producing lemons).

Some electrical connections have become loose which makes the 3rd brake light operate intermittently.

Doors like to squeak, but nothing a little WD40 can't handle.

Pneumatic shocks on the tail gate are crappy and lose compression over time so the hatch won't stay open anymore.

Going over 140 sounds like you're in a wind tunnel.

General Comments:

Car is gutless but reliable.

Easy to mod :)

Good for a first/student car.

Cheap on gas.

Driver's side headlight is a pain to change.

Life and cars are kind of like a box of chocolates; ya never know what you're gonna get. You have put some km on that thing in 12 years and you expect the same showroom quality that it came to you with? All cars (and I do mean all) suffer from the effects of weather and driving. The best defense I have ever found for this is Preventative Maintaince, Checks, and Services (PMCS for short). Even with PMCS you are going to have mechanical and weather related problems (seals on the prop rods, creaking door hinges, ETC.). Think about it.

You say 140 kp/h. Just how fast can a base 2.2 Sundance go? I've topped 155 in mine, but that was the extreme limit (trying to escape death... long story). Why the misleading 200 kp/h speedometer?

18th Aug 2002, 04:06

I've had mine up to 190km/h, but mind you that was down hill (supposedly my brother had it up to 200km/h. On level ground mine will do 170km/h with the stock 2.2L and 3-speed auto.

My speedometer only goes up to 140km/h, but I have had it up to an estimated 155.

I can barely get my Sundance to the speed limit of 70 mph. and the check engine light is always on.

I have a 89 sundance RS I love the car it has 107000 miles. The car has every option and they all work. Its pretty fast with the turbo.

Head gasket on the 2.5 E.F.I is to be changed every 60 000 km, and it rusts as fast as you can say it.

Mine did run fine till I let a friend drive it, got it hot and cracked the head.

Now it's been parked for the past 6 years.
