1993 Plymouth Sundance

Summary:

This car is like the energizer bunny... it keeps going and going!!

Faults:

Just recently had the ignition switch and key switch replaced, but other than that all other repairs have been expected (i.e. brakes, tires, timing belt).

General Comments:

I love this car. For a small car it is quite comfortable, and handles well. Even in the snow (when all my neighbors were stranded) I went out to the store without any problems, and even made it to work although when I arrived I realized we were closed. The car accelerates nicely, handles turns well and has been a pleasure to drive.

1993 Plymouth Sundance Base 2.2 litre

Summary:

A comfy car, just get yourself a good one!

Faults:

First day, the cooling fan seized, followed a month later by a busted radiator.

Ignition coil and exhaust feeder pipe went at around 130K.

New valves, cylinder head, lifters, rocker arms and camshaft at 150K.

General Comments:

To be fair, this recent sizeable repair was the quick (and I'm told cheaper) way to repair a seized valve (Re: welded into its hole) that had snapped its rocker arm. The engine was functioning with this problem for an untold number of kilometers before the repair, just in a subpar manner.

The repairs were only made after the car died on me in the middle of the night, due to the fact the someone had poured water, or some type of beverage, into my gas tank the night before.

I hope the problem has been rectified, but I now no longer drive it long distances, always fill up with ethanol, and never let it drop below three quarters of a tank.

Please people, buy locking gas caps!

I have a red '93 Sundance and it has a really bad oil leak, along with a gas leak. One day when I was sitting in my house one of the tires popped on its own. While I was up North someone ripped out the air conditioner trying to get to my CD player. We found the air conditioner about a block away from my house. A week after that I decided to paint the top of my engine so I had to take the wires out of my distributor cap, when I put them back in, I did it wrong. So when I drove down the wrong it chugged and sometimes it all most died.

I hope your having a lot more luck with your car than I'm having with mine. I bought mine for $1285.00 and I'm 17 years old.

1993 Plymouth Sundance Base 2.2L

Summary:

An easy to maintain daily driver

Faults:

New battery, distributor, fuel filter, cooling fan, radiator, thermostat (all just after purchase - had been parked 3/4 of a year, and I suspect was a city driver).

Recent repairs: New coil (to the distributor), exhaust feeder pipe, and front brake pads.

General Comments:

I would not have bought this car had it not been a rare combo of my favorite colour, sunroof, 2.2L engine (more reliable, least costly), 5-speed manual (Chrysler automatics scare me), two doors, and a remarkably convenient (and not totally obvious) hatchback.

It makes up for its lack of power with a nice interior with top-quality (and wonderfully comfortable) seats and fabric.

The stereo is very nice, the controls very ergonomic and thought-out, and the car turns on a dime (and also corners well, with performance radials).

The brakes are mushy.
