1985 Plymouth Voyager Mitsubishi 2.6L 4-Cylinder
Summary:
Most reliable, toughest, longest lasting vehicle ever... It must have been an accident!
Faults:
Balancer (front pulley) bolt works loose and needs tightening approx. every 50,000 Km.
Messy oil leak results from above bolt... Needs a good bath when bolt is tightened.
Radiator cooling fan replaced at 200,000 Km.
Transmission 3rd. gear band lining came loose at approx. 295,000 Km. Replaced with rebuilt at 305,000 Km. (Autopsy on tranny (by tranny shop) revealed no damage or visible wear other than separated band. Old band replaced, new gaskets and tranny was installed in friend's Charger - 17,000 Km. ago.)
Lower end of tailgate struts broke loose at 317,000 Km.
At 330,000 Km. valve guides have started leaking causing a (very little) bit of smoke on start-up.
General Comments:
All usual 'consumables' have been replaced (tires, brakes, exhaust, spark plugs & filters) as needed, but at the same or much, MUCH lower rate than on any other vehicle I've ever owned.
Has never failed to start within the first two turns (except once when I left the lights on), even in our Canadian winters.
I used to be a small car fan (MG, Austin Mini, Sunbeam Imp, Ford Cortina, whole collection of Fiats)... This van has always given better gas mileage than any of them, under any load or driving conditions.
I wish my '93 Caravan had the same bench seat as this one; it's unbelievably comfortable.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

We love our mini van after 1.208.000 miles on the 3.1 L engine it has been every where and pulled everything from 3600 bounds to car dollys loaded with full size cars. Very few problems with it. Water pump and timing belt replaced at 245000 miles. Transmision repaired at 128000 miles differential went out. but everything else is original. With regular tune ups its the best little vehicle we have owned. we now have 2 mini vans and 2 cars all buy Chrysler.
