1988 Pontiac Bonneville SSE 3.8 V6

Summary:

A dream come true

Faults:

The MAS sensor was changed recently.

Other than that nothing so far.

General Comments:

This car is so far the best car that I have driven, it is noticeably better than some of the newer cars.

Even with 250,000km it gets up and goes really quickly.

Has lots of power and still handles like a dream.

So far I have had no problems with it and I am so happy that I finally own one.

I got a great deal on it too, $1,000 Canadian, when book value is $4,000.

I hope that I am able to own the car until I am dead. I love it that much.

If anyone is reading this, and thinking of buying a Bonneville. Do it, you will not regret it.

Can anyone tell me about the "Electric Leveling Controlled Struts" of the 1988 Bonneville, & is the system available on the marker for other Pontiac models?

1988 Pontiac Bonneville LE 3.8L V6

Summary:

Tough as nails!

Faults:

Radiator deteriorated at 154,000 miles.

Rear wheel bearing went out (smacked a big old curb REAL hard while having fun sliding around during the winter)

Rear struts have been bad since I purchased it. Still drive it even though it floats down the road like a big old boat!

Clear coat deteriorating.

General Comments:

This car is tough as nails, plain and simple. The 3.8L is extremely strong and hasn't needed ANYTHING besides regular oil changes etc. At around 148,000 miles I took it on a long road trip and received 36 miles per gallon on the freeway. Went over mountain passes without breaking a sweat. This is my daily driver, and it gets a lot of miles each day, mostly hard city miles yet it just keeps on keepin' on.

The reliability is incredible!

General Comments:

The Pontiac Bonneville is one of the most versatile cars I have ever owned.

The car has great response off the line and rides very smooth.

I bought the car from the original owner who kept the car in mint condition.

I paid 2500$ for this very exceptional vehicle.

General Comments:

I'd Admired these cars for years, only wishing I had one, when to my suprize, a buddy at work had been offered $1,000 for it as a trade-in at the Local Lexus dealer. I overheard the story and promptly offered $1500. The car was in relatively good shape, with the exception of the clear coat, the Headliner, a persistant exhaust leak, and a glowing "Antilock" light in the dash. Blue Book was still over $4,000, so what a deal! The car handles like a sports car, and pulls hard & fast right up to 120mph. Luxury Interior with Leather trimmed seating complete with Lumbar adjustments. The biggest Trunk I've ever seen! Even with all the repairs I've done and need to do, I LOVE MY SSE! With almost a quarter million miles, the Engine burns no oil, and idles like a sewing machine. I plan to keep this car as long as I can. Unfortunately, Pontiac has left me out in the cold... The Electronic Compass has ceased to function and taken the remainder of the instruments out along with it, and Pontiac no longer supports these vehicles, so without a speedo or gas gauge, I'm worried the end my be near...
