1989 Pontiac Bonneville LE 3.8 liter fuel injected

Summary:

My First Car... Still My Car

Faults:

The only major problem I can remember is the transmission, but that can be expected after 140k miles and 17 years.

The radio was also starting to die, but I replaced it soon after.

General Comments:

First of all, I want to point out that I love this car.

It has good performance and handling, partly due to its lovely engine.

The interior is very nice for a car off its age, and probably better than some new cars. Everything is power! There is plenty of leg room, and plenty of trunk space.

Great great car, I plan to keep for a long time.

1989 Pontiac Bonneville sse 3.8

Summary:

Ahead of its time "SSE"

Faults:

Heater blower kicked out!

Door locks (couldn't open doors).

Crankshaft sensor.

Intake plenum problems

Friggn' alternator, battery

Coolant gasket leak.

With these problems that I've encountered,I really can't complain the car has never left me stranded these were problems that were arising and I rectified them promptly. the previous owner took care of the car, so its only natural that these gremlins would hinder the performance of the car. AFTER ALL, IT IS AN '89!

General Comments:

The "SSE" is fully equipped the ride is amazing and smooth you really have a sense of a commanding position with this car. The gadgets in these cars will spoil you. From the digital compass to the 9way seat positions. everything is just a touch of a button away. The "SSE" came with the ground effects. Mine is all black with black mags and tan interior. the only real regrets I have with the 88-91 bonnevilles were the superchargers ---THEY NEVER CAME WITH THEM. only '92 and up, by then the body style changed.

Hello. I just wanted to ask the person whose doors locked and then they couldn't open them. My car has the same problem and I was wondering what did you do to fix the problem. I don't know whether to go to the junkyard and get new doors or go to an auto repair shop to get them fixed. If you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a 1989 Bonneville SSE and was wondering if anyone could help me. I am wanting to know why the doors on 3 sides will not open. Only the passenger side will. Anyone with a similar problem could you please advise what may be the problem and what your solution was. Thank you very much. Very satisfied other than that in Indiana.

I just bought 89 SSE and its amazing. plenty of power and controls for everything. the previous owner said that the lock on the front passenger door stopped working, but he fixed it by taking the door panel off and lubricating everything really well.

I had the same problem with my 89 Bonneville SSE. Only doors on driver's side would open. Get someone on the inside to keep working the lock button, and you hit the top of door handle on outside and pushing the button at the same time. It worked on mine; was told they used some grease that year that didn't work. Hope this works for you also.
