1999 Pontiac Bonneville SSE 3.8

Summary:

Would buy another Bonneville

Faults:

Needed new tires:

I purchased the car with the original Goodyear Eagle LS tires, these are horrible tires, as the steel belts in them will slip and cause the tires to go out of round and/or blow out.

The windshield wipers will sometimes not come on if you press the wash button, you have to actually turn on the wipers, then it will work.

General Comments:

This is an awesome car as a whole, has very good acceleration, lots of room and is very comfortable. The handling is very good for a large car.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SSE V6

Summary:

This car is Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!!!

Faults:

Scratched the trunk and rear taillight cover, replaced that.

General Comments:

The car as of now is the best car I have ever owned. I added a cold air intake with a K&N filter and I now get better gas mileage and it sounds grrrreat. I am thinking about putting a flowmaster exhaust on it, but they don't make one for the Bonneville so it would have to be custom made.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3.8 series II V6

Summary:

One of GM's best cars!

Faults:

Vacuum leak from gas cap seal tripped check engine light. Replaced gas cap.

Ball joint went at 78000 miles. Probably factory original. I drive this car like I stole it.

General Comments:

This is one tough reliable car. I drive it like it's stolen. I'm talkin' stab the gas, stomp the brakes kind of driving. I enter 25 mph on ramps at 55 mph and this car never complains.

I wish there was a little more power so I could smoke the tires better from a take off, but I can't complain too much.

Gas mileage is pretty consistent no matter how I drive this car. About 15 in the city and 24 to 26 mpg's on the highway. Not too bad for a pretty big car.

Update: As of today 02/13/05, my Bonneville is still running strong and reliable as ever. It now has a little over 114000 on it. Since I originally wrote this review, the only things I've done to this car have been routine maintenance, tune up, oil changes etc. I still drive this car like I stole it, hard and fast. I take it up to it's fuel cut off at a 105 mph at least once a month. Amen for radar detectors! This has been an extremely reliable car, considering the daily beating it takes and the lack of problems it gives!!!

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI 3.8 SuperCharged

Summary:

Ausome vehicle

Faults:

Moon roof is noisy.

Paint on moon roof edges peeled off.

Battery cracked and leaked over A/C line. Dealer replaced the battery and fixed the A/C lines.

General Comments:

This my second Bonneville, bought brand new in 1999, I had 1993 Bonneville SE.

I added a K&N filter to my 1999 SSEI and the car screams. The only thing is you have to use premium gas instead of regular because of the super charger and this adds up quikley. Had a minor accident, rear air strut went bad. GM does not manufacture CCR air struts anymore, both rear struts had to be replaced by a self-leveling struts and also had to replace computer chip to control them.

I have just recently bought the 1999 SSEi. the reason is because my brother has a 1997 SSEi that he has owned for 8 yrs and in all that time he has only replaced tires and a starter. no other problems with the car. I love this car it is an awesome machine and sorry for some of you who get stuck with lemons, but the SSEI is truely a great car to own and drive.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SLE

Summary:

I love it, lots of power and comfort, and very reliable!

Faults:

The only thing that has ever gone wrong with this car is when I first bought it, it was out of alignment and that was due to the way it was secured to the transporter truck. It was repaired the following day and no problems since.

This 1999 is a dream, and I still have my old 1989 Bonneville with 140,000 miles on it! I find them to be very reliable and a dream to drive. My 99 SLE is very comfortable and I feel quite secure driving it. I bought out the lease this past year so I can own it outright, and the buyout was only $15,000. It had 26,000 miles on it then!

General Comments:

The only thing I would change is the brakes, they have kind of spongy brakes (typical of Pontiacs) but certainly they work well. I just like them to grab a little higher.

I just love the way my 96 Bonneville performed so I bought a 99. So far I can't complain. As far as I'm concerned you really couldn't buy a much nicer car. The 96 has 144,000 miles on it. We still drive it every day. The 99 just sits there and is waiting for the 95 to die. The only time we use the 99 is to go on long trips. I figured by now that the 96 would be dead however it just keeps on keeping on. I highly recommend a Bonneville.

1999 Pontiac Bonneville SE 3.8 liter 6 cylinder

Summary:

A reliable and inexpensive option

Faults:

I never had to make any major repairs to this car. The original serpentine belt wore out at 25,000 miles and the original manufacturer tires wore out at 32,000. The worse thing about this car was the fact the brakes were undersized. This vehicle had the 17" tire option. I would replace the brake pads every 18 months just to make sure they were at peek condition. If I was driving this car on only level terrain the braking power probably would have been sufficient. To keep from hydro planing I bought Aqua-tred III tires and they rode wonderfully on this car. Gas mileage began to worsen after 45K, city was about 18MPG and highway was about 25MPG. When it was new it was more like 22MPG city and 30MPG highway. I traded this car in when a popping noise began in the steering. This was probably a CV joint going and it was time for a change.

General Comments:

This car was very reliable for the 40,000 miles I drove it. It was very comfortable and the cabin was almost noiseless. It was also very roomy and my friends liked to car-pool in it. The trunk was huge and I even hauled furniture in it. This was the last model year for a popular car and most people thought it was older than it actually was. I liked the amber dashboard lights in this car.
