2001 Pontiac Bonneville SE

Summary:

Good car, but the little electrical problems and poor built quality can become a major annoyance

Faults:

I got this company car when it was 28,000. I have made over 20,000 miles with it. Just had a few common problems, some lights in the dash and a speaker were blown up, driver side mirrors vibrates at high speeds, rattles, etc.

I did not have mechanical problems, and the 3.8 is said to be very reliable.

General Comments:

I like the power of the engine and the ride. It is not a sports car, but the power of the 3.8 is more than enough to have a safe and comfortable driving. Handling is fine although it is not mean to be a sports car. Design is a bit bold, but aggressive. Anyway, looks too old fashioned in these days. Fit and finish... what can I tell you? it is definitely below average, materials look fine, but plastics make are a bit loosen up specially door panels and there is little rattles everywhere.

2001 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 3.8

Summary:

Excellent!!!

Faults:

The heated passenger seat switch was not working and was replaced under extended warranty.

Replaced wiper blades.

Otherwise the car runs flawlessly!

General Comments:

For all you GM bashers:

I am close to 70 and my last five cars were all GM: Buick, 2 Chevies and two Bonnevilles.

My last, 1988 Bonneville, was sold with 199000 miles and still ran flawlessly with the original 3800 engine (only changed the timing belt at 87,000 miles), it still did not burn any oil and had plenty of pep!!!

My current 2001 Bonneville SLE, was purchase two years ago with 30K miles and has now performed flawlessly, with no problems at all!

2001 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 3.8 series II

Summary:

True driving excitement, thumbs up Pontiac!

Faults:

The only thing that has gone wrong with this car is the rear window regulator on the drivers side. Which the dealership is replacing for no charge.

General Comments:

The body on this car is awesome. It is sleek, sexy and just beckons for your utmost attention... Pontiac has definitely got the wide track to a science. The interior rivals that of a Cadillac, The leather seats, the drivers information center and steering wheel radio controls put everything within the drivers reach. Now for the down falls of the car. The constant high pitch brake squeal tends to get rather annoying. The other down fall is the battery under the back seat.

I feel its safer having the battery up front or in the trunk. I once had a starter stick in my Corvette and the battery compartment (behind the driver seat) filled up the entire cabin with smoke. Also there is acid fume risk and having acid potentially released inside the car in the event of an accident. My 1990 Bonneville LE had a battery up front and lasted a long time. You might save several months of life in the car that's about it.

My 2000 has started either missing at around 60mph, or there's something going on with the transmission. It's going in next week. What can I expect?

2001 Pontiac Bonneville SLE 3.8L

Summary:

Great Car!!!

Faults:

Minor repairs due to past owners neglect.

Rear end sliding or bouncing from side to side in the winter months. Dealer cannot find anything wrong. Tires were checked and are new since 2003. Possible suspension problem.

General Comments:

Cup holders for the driver and passenger are in a bad spot. Thay are so close to eachother is is impossible to get two coffee cups in there, barely get two cans of pop in there.

Radio reception can be improved.

Would prefer a hand break and not a foot parking break.

Temperature controls are a little confusing, but over time I will get the hang of it.

Hazard button could be placed closer to the driver.

60/40 folding rear seat would have been preferred, but the little trap door has been handy.

But all this aside. I LOVE THIS CAR. I would highly recommend the car to anyone. It is great!

Replace your rear shocks. That will work, a few people I know have had that same problem, and that fixed it immediately.

You can do it yourself, for around 139 bucks, buy the Monroe Air Shocks...2 bolts under the car, 2 In the trunk and a jack for both the car and control arm...you're on your way again! It is really quick and easy to do.
