1986 Pontiac Firebird 2.8L V6 Manual

Summary:

Excellent choice for a vehicle

Faults:

First I had to replace the fuel pump.

The exhaust had to be removed for now.

I had to replace the cooling system.

The fan relay went bad from a short.

Needs spark plugs and fuel treatment.

Tires required valve stem changing.

It needs repainting.

General Comments:

I got my first car late last year at a very decent price. The car had been sitting for over seven years.

It required very little work to get it going once again.

It is surprisingly quick for a 2.8L. The man who owned it before me invested in all kinds of performance parts.

She turns on a dime.

With the muffler removed, it sounds loud. I want to put Flow master mufflers on it to give it a little more kick.

This car accelerates at an astonishing rate. It can throw you back in the seat and keep you there. The power is abnormally high for this car.

She is in most excellent condition for a car with so many miles on it.

1986 Pontiac Firebird 2.8L V6

Summary:

A sporty gem, this one's a triumph during warmer weather

Faults:

When I purchased the car the odometer and speedometer were not functioning. Therefore it remains at 130,000 miles.

The headlight motor blew out, so the lids are constantly up.

There is a tear in the driver seat. Otherwise, I find them to be quite comfortable, and all of the other seats have proven durable.

The hydraulic motors to hold up the trunk and hood do not work.

The heater is broken, however because of the temperature at which the engine runs I can heat up the inside of the car rather quickly by setting the air controls at vent.

My most recent discouragement involves a leak in the the fuel filter and lines, being the original, are made of steel.

General Comments:

This is a great car, when in good condition, especially for a single person or couple. The front seats are spacious, however the back is cramped.

Also, trunk space is limited.

The rear end is light, so good tires are crucial for superior handling.

The smaller aforementioned imperfections, like the headlights, can be considered an inconvenience, but do not affect the overall appeal of this car.

I have this same car, 250.000 klm, runs well, not an oil burner, has some surface rust, but otherwise in good condition. Holds the road in winter better than my Buick Century, would love to restore this car, but at my age it's not worth my time,

1986 Pontiac Firebird 5.0 tpi

Summary:

Buy one and it will be the only car you'll ever wanna drive

Faults:

Nothing I could see ever was wrong with it. The car has always done great until I changed the engine. Then I started having problems out of it. My dad built a 1965 300hp 327 with $3500.00 invested in it and he gave it to me. So I wanted more monster power for racing. And I got it with a price of a lot of problems I never would have got if I would have left the 5.0 in it. Now my computer is'nt reading the car right because the tpi dose not match up to the air and fuel it needs to run right.

General Comments:

On the good points and there is a lot. The car handles better then any Ford or Dodge I ever drove. And I haven't seen a street legal Dodge or Ford to compare to it yet. Basically I love the car I have owned it for 3 yrs and I'll never part with it. I think the only car average people can afford that could outdo the trans am is the corvette.

1986 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5.0 Tuned Port Injection

Summary:

A Corvette with room for four

Faults:

Battery was dead due to sitting up for over two months.

Brakes are currently "squeaking."

General Comments:

This car looks great with and without the t-tops being taken off.

Handles exceptionally well, although the rear is a little light.

Interior was wonderfully designed and is very comfortable for a single or even married without children person.

You are a little vague on why the rear-end is light on the car, otherwise I would grade your report high.

He's vague on why the rear end is light? Probably because it is not heavy enough. What a Stupid question.

He likely says this because he gets too much wheel spin, and maybe the rear end comes out while going around sharp fast corners.
