2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 5.7L

Summary:

Not sure I would buy another Pontiac

Faults:

Had problem with rotors at 22,000 miles.

General Comments:

Rotors were out of round at 22,000 miles and dealer would not fix the problem. Had to complain to Pontiac and they fixed the problem. However, later found out from a former GM employee that Pontiac knew about the problem with the rotors and never let consumers know with a recall. Most people would take dealership's word that it can't be fixed under warranty and wouldn't bother calling Pontiac.

I know why they quit making them now. the engine had to be replaced they bore the cylinders two big------the tranny #2 band and#4 bands were bad -----the windshield cracked below the dash ---fan blower motor went out ---windows rattled they replaced motors --- all this was warranty, but the junker I bought has been in the shop more than in my garage...2 of the speakers in the 10 speaker system are blown, the inside is plastic hate it... i wish I had bought a used pinto. gm made a wise CHOICE when they stopped production.

General Comments:

Yes it is fast if you can get it started before it breaks down.

Your problems with your car aren't synonyomous with late model trans ams. In fact, 2001 and 2002 (final year of production) models are 5 star vehicles. I think you have just had some bad luck or were sold a lemon. I myself have a 95 Trans Am and am now just started to have problems with it (new distributor), but my car is 7 years old. Don't bad mouth a superb car based on some bad luck...

2001 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6 5.7 LS1 V8

Summary:

Like power? This is the car

Faults:

The only thing that went wrong so far is a small (very small) oil leak on the differential where it connects to the drive shaft. Taken care under warranty.

Also, a small rattle that seems to be coming from the passenger door or glove box. Didn't have the time to find the source of the noise. It only happens at cruising speed, 70 or 75mph.

General Comments:

This is the best bang for the buck ever.

If you want to smoke mustangs and ricers alike, this is the car.

Excellent power, amazing torque, a real pleasure to drive (6 speed manual).

Don't EVER get this car with an automatic gear box. It's a waste of money and it takes away the driving pleasure.

2001 Pontiac Firebird WS6 5.7L 350 cu. in.

Summary:

The muscle car lives

Faults:

I bought it brand new. I went back for a free detail a week later, and all they did was wash it. So thumbs down to the dealer. At 4000 Miles, my transmission blew a gear. They were very angry but had to replace it (4000$ in warranty). The new transmission feels just as crappy as the old one. That's the only problem I have with my baby. Still my dream car, but the transmission is sloppy. It resists being pushed in gears and feels like its loose all the time.

General Comments:

The new Trans Am by Pontiac. Still my dream car. Still turns all the heads. Still leaves em in the dust.

Regardless of the transmission...

Sorry sir, but don't downgrade your engine as being a "5.7 350" when it is the Corvette-derived LS-1 displacing 346 cubic inches and is all aluminum. This is a significant improvement over the old 350, and provides proven performance to exceed the old LT-1.

The 325 HP Ram Air WS-6 is indeed the enthusiast's car, and provoking the 6-speed just brings back the flavor from the old big-block GTO's of yore.

The transmission in the Trans Am WS6 is in my opinion one of the best transmissions ever made and is by no means a "sloppy" transmition.
