2006 Pontiac G6
Summary:
Great new design... just what consumers needed
Faults:
Seats are a little stiff.
Other than that, the car has been amazingly reliable.
General Comments:
When I first bought this car, I drove 12.5 hours to Kentucky to pick up my daughter... on that drive, I averaged 38-2 miles per gallon. This car is only rates at 32. Rarely do cars actually get.. not to mention overpass the mpg they say they should get...
Very happy with this car. Great job Pontiac.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Especially during the running in period... what do you do at the General anyway?

I'm really surprised at the GREAT fuel mileage the mid-size and large GM cars get with their reasonably powerful V-6's. Our Impalas both got over 33 mpg on the highway, and that is very good for such a large and heavy sedan. Many GM V-6's get better mileage than many 4's. My wife's 275HP in-line 6 GMC Envoy got over 24mpg on a highway trip this summer, and that was a VERY pleasant surprise too for a large SUV. GM is doing something right.

The G-6 is a very well built and reliable vehicle. My family has driven several GM cars over the years and we've had absolutely ZERO problems with any of them. My only regret with Pontiac is that it dropped the incredibly powerful, maintenance-free (no rubber timing belt) and reliable Quad 4 engine. One of our current vehicles is a 2001 Grand Am with the Quad 4. I've driven 2 of the new G-6's equipped with the V-6 and neither is as fast as my Grand Am. On the plus side, the GM V-6's are VERY fuel efficient. My brother's Chevy Impala gets an incredible 33 mpg on the highway. My Grand Am 4 only gets 30. I don't plan to trade any time soon, as most of our friends have gotten 200,000+ miles out of their Grand Ams and mine is absolutely showroom at this time, but the G-6 might be a future (FAR future) choice. Lots of luck with yours.
