1989 Pontiac Grand Am LE 2.5
Summary:
Caddy without the sizable debt
Faults:
Starter around 155,000 $90+labor.
Water pump at bout 160,000 miles $100+labor.
Main belt around 162,000 $9.
Transmission solenoid around 165,000 $63+labor.
I did maintenance on all of my vehicles which is why I added labor to the part costs.
General Comments:
This car came from a older more mature gentleman. I have had no more than routine wear and tear repairs considering the mileage and the age.
The handle of this car is like "breathing" it simply comes natural. Something I noticed with other cars was the power steering was "to easy" not with this one.
The comfort is very nice, something like a Caddy, or this might be from only having smaller economy cars previously.
Conclusion is a very affordable luxury vehicle that will stand up if you don't treat it like a "Indy race car".
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

As far as I know the 1989 Grand Am used a timing gear not a timing belt and, according to most Internet sources this is far more effective and longer lasting, if noisier than a using a chain.
