1993 Pontiac Grand Am se 3.3

Summary:

Great car for a younger person. Pretty powerful

Faults:

Neutral safety switch went after driving it for a couple of months; that was the most major issue. Other issues were shocks, struts, and a wheel bearing went in the second year.

General Comments:

The car was very dependable; it got me where I needed to be.

The car is pretty powerful; a very good highway drive.

The car's suspension could be more smooth, but overall, an amazing car.

1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.3L

Summary:

Cheap car

Faults:

Electronic modulator died on way home from the dealership.

Brakes needed changing.

Alternator died.

Battery died.

Transmission died.

Paint flaky.

General Comments:

Was a good first car, had decent acceleration and speed. Didn't care about a good looking car since I didn't buy it.

Went about 3 years before any major issues (alternator), and then another year before the transmission died.

Overall, nice starter car. Cheap to repair, parts easily were available at junk yards.

1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6-204ci 3.3L F/I Vin N

Summary:

This car will rock your world if you take good care of it

Faults:

UGH here's my List I got this car as a gift for getting my driver's license.

84,243 Mile's was when the car was given to me. Ran Great.

Skipping along.

About 86,000 Mile's Needed a belt replacement and a Radiator Flush. Yea Normal Routine's to keep going.

Drove the car from PA to FL. Smooth Ride all the way down. Drove about 90mph at Max.

Replacements: Replaced the Fuel Filter at about 99,000 miles. Got a good Tune-Up. Did a little engine cleaning myself a can of engine cleaner costs about less than $5 a can. Everything still good.

At 105,000 Mile's Horror struck me on the way to work. Going to Miami, Fl down I-95 everything was fine at first. I could hear a slight rattle. I thought nothing of it and thought it was the muffler shaking around as it normally does. Later getting off I-95 and going down the street is sounded as if something was banging around in my engine. I quickly stopped at a service station. There like Uh O. Your Water pump went out. Yea turns out it was more than a water pump that needed fixed.

The top most important thing's the car needed.

1. Water Pump

2. Idler Pulley

3. Serpentine Belt

4. Rear Brake service - Car dropped to 1 side when I stopped. Now Fixed.

5. Crankshaft Pulley

Total cost was $660.

Turns out my Radiator was losing Antifreeze only cause of the Water Pump Failing. Which in this case is considered a very good thing. After these fixes the car started running like new again.

Car still has it's great new interior look.

Alternator still runs fine and is still working up to 105,650 miles.

The car tends to shake at High Speeds over 75.

Main fix for this problem is new rotors and etc.

The car has had a HUGE hole on the bottom of the muffler. Easy fix to do yourself without spending $100's on a new muffler. Muffler Cement did the trick to repairing the golf ball size hole in the muffler. Total cost to fix that was $5.

The Car will Rob you for your GAS MONEY!!

I advise using Gas treatment's. I would use Preferably anything STP. Any other products may not work as well. DO NOT USE OCTANE BOOSTERS. The Octane for the car is 87. Do NOT use any other Gas than the Octane it supports. Doing so can cause problems.

Overtime you'll notice the car takes a little longer to accelerate. Yes Old Oil will build up in the engine overtime. One bottle of (Gunk Valve Treatment: Valve Medic.) Will do the trick. It's purpose is to dissolve sludge, gum, and dirt deposits from valve lifters. The performance after the Valve Medic was INCREDIBLE. Faster Acceleration. Don't Confuse Valve Medic for a Oil Additive. You only need to use it once. They have other products if you want to keep using it for prolong terms.

Also you'll need to clean the car's MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). I suggest doing this after every 3 month's of replacing the car's Air Filter. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. This is how your car determines the Gas and air mixture into the engine. Cleaning the MAF takes less than 10 minutes to do yourself. Only use CRC Chemicals Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. DO NOT use Electrical Cleaner sprays to clean the MAF. Also be Fragile when cleaning the MAF. A simple mistake can cause a simple $115 to replace.

The car only run's the way you want it to run. Treat it right and it will do the same.
