Summary:

Your worst nightmare

Faults:

The Interior lights say on when you put the car in reverse or drive. (I have to remove the fuse if I want to drive at night) The locks doesn't work. The head gasket cracked. I get 93 miles to a full tank (fuel pump gone out). The turn radius is very poor. The tail lights get water in them every time it rains. The brakes go out every year. (I don't live in a area of hills). The transmission power is very poor.

General Comments:

Save your time and money, don't buy a Pontiac Grand Am.

This is the worst car I have every owned.

I will never buy this model car again.

We have a 1992 GA and have had twice if not three times those problems. This car is a piece of junk!! Our mechanic called it (the quad 4) the 3 month engine. We have replaced and rebuilt nearly the whole engine. The head has cracked twice and is on its way out again. Brakes, yup, every year entire system. ABS Sensor as well (a good $400 if you cannot fix it yourself)! But hey it has been great on gas...LOL

I would never tell any one to purchase one of these cars again in the Quad 4 engine. My sister has a 2002 in the V-6 though and is having good luck. SO FAR!!!

I has well have a 95 Grand Am and had the timing tenisoner fail. After replacing four intake valves, head gasket, tenisoner, guides and so on. The car ran for about a month and the crank shaft went. I pulled a 2.2 engine from a Chevy, trans and all and installed it with little difficulty in the car. Trans fits the same with use of mount from Grand Am Transmission. I also pulled the wiring harness from the Chevy and installed it in my car. I may be correct in saying I have the only reliable four cylinder Grad Am in the world. Jeremy.

My wife and I bought our 1994 Grand Am new and it has been a great car. Still running with very few repairs with 218,000 miles, true story.

Summary:

An economic car if you can pay for the repairs

Faults:

This car had been good to me for the first couple of years. After it hit 90,000 miles it was a different story. I have replaced the heater core 3 times, gone through 3 alternators (all with lifetime warranties), replaced the front disk brakes 4 times in 30.000 miles which just is not right at all. I also had a head gasket go out at 115,000 miles which I heard was a problem with the 2.3L engines. And just last week my mechanic told me I have a cracked head on it.

General Comments:

Overall this car was comfortable to drive even on long trips.

It had enough power for what I needed it to do.

It would have been a nice car except for it constantly breaking, but I should have done research before I bought it.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

Too many major repair bills

Faults:

A better question would be what hasn't gone wrong with it. Immediately after getting it home the steering wheel broke while driving it almost sending my son into the ditch.

Shortly after that whenever it was first driven it would die out for about 2 blocks before it started running o.k. After having it in the shop twice for the same problem it finally just started running again.

In October, the heater core went out on it with a $200 repair bill.

In January, the heater core went out on in it again with another $200 repair bill.

Last weekend the rod bearing went out on it. I was just called and told it's a MAJOR problem because there is metal everywhere from it It's probably not even worth fixing.

General Comments:

My advice is to not buy this year and make of car. The only good thing about it was the gas mileage.

The '94 Grand Am is known for problems. My '98 Grand Prix (see review) was in a bad accident not too long ago and the body shop gave me a 1994 Grand Am GT. The car had 117,000 miles on it and the dashboard rattled like crazy, the left turn signal sticked, it sucked down gas, and was leaking a lot of coolant. Before my car was done I brought it back and they thought it was a sensor and told me to keep an eye on it. I was so happy to get my car back.
