1994 Pontiac Grand Am GT 16v QUAD 4 DOHC

Summary:

LOVE IT!

Faults:

My Bright Red Sweetheart 1994 Pontiac GT Coupe HO 16v QUAD 4.

When I first got the car oil pump went, dealer said Pontiac was having problems with those pumps they replaces the engine which shot a rod due to oil starvation which would happen to any car and never had a problem again.

The alternator went out about 10-11 years ago replaces again by yours truly with life time warranty aftermarket part and still to date no issues with that either.

About 5-6 years ago the linkage for the gear shifter broke so I couldn't get it out of gear, still she got me all the way home in second gear with the flashers on. Dealer wanted $500.00 for the part, went to a salvage yard pulled one out of a Beretta GT for $20.00 did the work myself again which was a little harder running it through the firewall but no problems to date.

The starter went out 4 years ago it's a little harder job due to its location but did the work again myself and again to date no other starting problems cost, just the part which again has life time warranty form the manufacturer.

Last summer had to change the serpentine belt because it began to squeak after 13 years so I figured why not change the power steering belt while in there, again life time warranty parts I can say this has been a good little car couldn't ask for more.

Most recently the driver's window quit working at 105,000, replaced the window motor myself cost to me just the motor, which once again has a lifetime warranty.

Besides wipers, oil, fuel, tires, belts which should all get changed a certain maintenance scheduling this car has been the best vehicle I've ever owned. By the way we even gave her a name “Trigger” just like The Lone Rangers horse she has never left me stranded!

General Comments:

Bottom line, a little more room in the back seats would have been nice and maybe even a little better quality plastic dashboard GM is notorious for cheap plastic.

For looks it's a good looking little car with the ground affects and dual exhaust and handling for the price, it well worth it.

Hey here's some food for thought my last car was a Honda Civic will never own one again worst thing on 4 wheels.

1994 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 V6

Summary:

It saved my life

Faults:

There was a leak in the floor from water coming in the firewall.

I had to replace the muffler.

I had to replace the shocks in front.

I did regular maintenance on the car - fluids, brakes, alignment...

I had to get the boots, axles, and all that fixed.

I had a little bit of rust on one fender, but it didn't cost much to have it fixed right away.

General Comments:

I'm 6 feet tall, and when I was driving my boyfriend's Elantra, I found I didn't fit well as compared to the Grand Am. It's lower to the floor like a race car would be, and much more comfortable to drive.

One of my favorite things about this car is what I call the "slingshot effect". When you want to merge in front of someone, you can step on the gas and the car will propel you like a slingshot. When I've raced the car, that's the "oomph" that will make it so that you win... it's just faster off the line and harder for other cars to catch up.

When you buy a second hand car, you will have some general repairs to do on the vehicle. I didn't find this one to be as bad as some of my friend's cars - it really wasn't in the shop that often. When I first bought it, I didn't take it to the mechanic for at least 6 months.

The car was in a horrible car crash in the end. A guy jumped the red light and hit the car in the back driver's side. He busted the fender in pretty good. He was going pretty fast. The car spun out of control and the front passenger side hit a pole. I was on the passenger side. The ambulance technician looked at me and said "it's for sure your car won't be fixed, but you are lucky to be alive. If that were a Sunfire, it would have wrapped around the pole and you would have been dead. That car was a well made car and saved your life". The fireman was outside telling my boyfriend the same thing - that car took a serious impact and he and I were able to walk away.

I looked up the car at http://www.safercar.gov/ and it got a good rating. From now on, when I buy cars, I am not going to worry about if I'll have to change a fan belt in the near future, but if I will live to tell the tale!!
