1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1L V6

Summary:

Rare example of a well screwed together GM car

Faults:

Power windows failed recently - both driver and passenger side replaced.

Occasional rough idle - especially when wet.

General Comments:

3.1 gives good grunt, but automatic hampers sport driving.

Body, paint and interior have all held up surprisingly well.

Ride is a bit rough, but the car has tons of grip.

Overall balance is nice and this is a very enjoyable car to take through the twisties.

Summary:

I like it, because it gets me from point A to point B

Faults:

Everything that could possibly go wrong with my car, has gonn wrong, the intake manifold blew about 4k miles ago, the antifreeze is leaking, and we can't find out where it is leaking to,

General Comments:

DON"T BUY PONTIAC, they are terrible.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.1 V6

Summary:

Fantastic looking and performing Sports Car!

Faults:

Transmission needed full rebuild at 200,000km.

A Transmission cooler line blew out at 203,000km.

Power Brakes - Master Cylinder (not ABS system fortunately) at 205,000 km.

Stock speakers blew (and not due to playing to loud too long) at 125,000km.

General Comments:

Very, very reliable to date until it hit 200,000kms then the expenses started mounting.

Great lines, this car has a subtle speed demon look to it.

Nice acceleration and handling, was going to get a Grand Prix, but couldn't tell the difference so went with the cheaper model, great choice.

Extremely comfortable seating, especially with lumbar support option.

Unfortunately has typical Pontiac brakes, that require more maintenance more frequently.

I'd buy another Grand Am in a heartbeat ... but I don't need to, mine's still kicking!!!

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1 SFI

Summary:

Pontiacs rule!

Faults:

Vacuum line leaked so vent control would not work (stupid Ford technology) and I fixed it myself in a few minutes.

Rotors wore out (typical of N-bodies) Less than $100.00 to replace at a respectable shop.

Inhaled intake seal @ 126,000 miles.

Gauge is starting to act funny, I'll fix it in the morning.

Vacuum line leaking again, can't defrost windshield (stupid Ford technology)

Front wheel bearings starting to get loose- I drive her hard, especially around corners!

Transmission getting a little frisky- automatics are for old ladies driving to church (and broke 20-somethings with expensive dates) but it's still holding strong and very snappy.

General Comments:

For everyone who expects a high mileage car to run like brand new... better change your oil more often. If you don't know how to change your own oil, HAVE YOUR HUSBAND OR BOYFRIEND do it for you. If you STILL don't know how to change your own oil, you don't belong behind the wheel of an automobile. Buy a golf cart and remember to plug it in.

The 3100 SFI V6 is standard in a GT and was an option on my SE. I will NEVER buy a car with a four cylinder OHC again. Pushrods are still the way to go. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

When it inhaled the intake seal, yea, the block got rediculously hot. I filled it with ice-cold water (it's all I had) and neither the block nor the heads cracked. New seal+3 oil flushes and it's back on the road again. Try to do that with a Honda.

My "beat up old Pontiac" will still run with the best of them, and NOBODY can tell me there's something wrong with my car that shouldn't be expected.

And BTW, I don't have power windows so I've never had a problem with them. If you have problems with power windows, buy a car with cranks.

There is no Ford technology in a Pontiac. Pontiac is owned by GM not Ford.

1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder quad

Summary:

Simple, reliable, easy to drive

Faults:

I have had the window motor replaced twice on the driver's side. Not cheap!!

I just had a full brake job done - new rotors and drums. But that's not so bad since the originals lasted me all 82,000 miles.

General Comments:

It is small enough for me to handle well, but not so small that I feel like the wind will blow me off the road!

With only a 4 cylinder engine, this thing has some fairly good zip to it.

It has amazingly good factory speakers. Recently, I put in a new, expensive, radio/CD player in place of the original radio. I left the factory speakers in. Sounds great!
