Faults:

Well my windows of course aren't working, and it costs too much to fix.

I bought the car for 2000.00 a year ago. Shortly after I bought it, the heater core went out, the O2 sensor went out, the water pump went out, and the coil housing pack went out.

Then it starts over heating.. changed the thermostat on it. Still over heats and mechanics tell me it's a Pontiac, no wonder.

And if I don't let off the gas pedal, it won't shift. Now it takes me like 45 minutes in the morning to get it started. I have to flood the engine just to get it to start, then it idles really high until it warms up, then it's fine. But if I let the car sit and cool down longer than 2 hours, I have to go through step 1 and flood the engine again. LOL. Yeah so I say to the people who thinks it's all about how you take care of your car, it's not true. I've put almost 6000 dollars into it, and still have more problems.

If they had known these are common problems for these cars, then they shouldn't have made them.

And for the people who haven't had problems yet with their car, then that's probably because a idiot like me already put the money into it so you wouldn't have the problems.

But like I say, it's a Pontiac, you will always have problems. American made cars suck.

Faults:

Nothing has actually gone wrong with the car, other than normal wear and tear items for a car owned this long. Just a few sets of brakes, a few sets of tires, and a couple of batteries, etc.

General Comments:

This car has been good, reliable transportation. I bought this car new. It has always started and never let me down. After all these years everything still works. It uses absolutely no oil between oil changes. It still drives well.

The only complaint I ever had about the car is that it rattles. It has done this since it was new. But this is only a minor irritant.

Faults:

Rain water leaking into car. From reading this thread I guess I am not the only one with a Grand Am wet floorboard. I thought it may need the windshield cowling sealed, but that didn't help. I can spray water on the firewall and it leaks into the car in at least three places. The firewall is jam packed with stuff so it's really hard to say where it's getting through the firewall with the motor in.

General Comments:

That is my only complaint. The car runs great, stays cool, and is easy on gas...

Faults:

My driver's window does not go down, my sunroof track is broken, the radiator has a crack, and the water pump went out and the hoses are busted. And you can hear the belts really bad when you start it up, it sounds horrible.

General Comments:

When I got this car it ran great, but now it's been one thing after the other that is going wrong with it, I'm going to end up putting more money in it than I paid for it.

Faults:

Found out the Pontiac was made with aluminum heads; notorious for blowing around 150k. Even with a rebuilt engine, the heads will still keep blowing.

General Comments:

Don't invest in this vehicle. I had a Civic which was totaled by some drunk driver, and all I got out of it was enough to afford this piece of crap.

A month later it just stopped running. The heads were warped after I got an oil change and put fresh anti-freeze in the radiator. Took it to a mechanic, and he informed us that Grand Ams are cheaply made, and do the same thing it did on us on a regular basis. Buyer beware.

I'm investing in a Maxima or another Civic in the next few weeks. I prefer a rice burner that I never had problems, to a crappy american manufacturer that can't make quality vehicles.
