1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.1

Summary:

I don't want to give up on the car

Faults:

Blown head gaskets.

Replaced alternator in 2010.

Replaced fuel pump in 2009.

Replaced heater core twice.

When it rains, it floods inside.

Passenger windows becoming slow.

New thermostat in 2010.

New radiator hose in 2009.

Surging.

New driver side wheel bearing in 2010.

Timing chain, water pump in 2010.

Ignition switch replaced in 2009.

Whole new gasket kit.

Replaced gas lines.

Finally replaced the engine in 2010.

General Comments:

I had never had any major problems with the car until the heater core went out in 2008, then months later the head gaskets blew on me. Ever since then, it has been back to back issues!

Once I decided to replace the 3100 engine, the car started right up after having blown, had gaskets twice, and now the RPM hand goes crazy once the car is started!

General Comments:

This car is a MONEY PIT, and I currently only have 113,000KM on it. I bought it as a lease-back.

The headlights are anemic, as they are not very bright, and seem to dim when the brakes are engaged. I have had it in for a servicing complaint on this issue, and it didn't get resolved.

I have also replaced numerous headlight bulbs as they burn out easily. 3-4 per year.

The power windows are slow, and almost stop completely in the winter.

I think my steering pump is going next, as it is starting to make a noise. :(

1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Summary:

Not a very reliable car!

Faults:

Hello, I've been reading about the flooding of the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am SE. And its corresponding problems. I'm writing to let everyone know that has a Pontiac Grand Am SE; please do not drive it. Or do so at your own risk.

My 7 month pregnant fiance needed a new car to get back and forth to doctor visits, so we bought a used car from an autobody shop.

The entire panel of gauges was out, so they replaced it before we bought the car.

We did notice that the driver side and back passenger floor was soaked as well.

After reading about everyone having the airbag problems due to the water damage, I was appalled. Leaving a doctor's appointment on April 28th, 2010, just 2 days after buying the car, the airbag for no reason exploded in my pregnant fiance's face. She had her elbow bruised so bad she can hardly get herself dressed. The airbag had hit her arm and caused it to slam against the door panel. Of course we had to go to the ER and have everything checked out. Thank god the baby is OK, but we live in the Chicago area and could of easily been on a busy highway, where if the bag opened this way, surely would have caused an accident, possibly fatal, to her or others on the road.

What can we do about this? Someone please help, I'm afraid it will kill someone someday if it hasn't already.

Anyone has any info they can share please e-mail me at deadmilkman30@yahoo.com or call anytime 765-543-9739 Josh.

General Comments:

Looks great, drives great, just has the water leak issue that causes the airbag to deploy.
