Faults:

Factory tires went bald early.

Brake pads wear fast, but solved by installing higher end rotors and pads.

Bent rims (x2).

Currently burning too much gas.

General Comments:

The car is very fun to drive.

Has great power off the line and with a few modifications the car will even take out a GT (air filter system, fuel system, tires, and ignition).

Only complaint is the wind noise at high speed (but installing a good stereo system covers it all up).

Faults:

Water pump.

Thermostat.

Serious electrical problems after the warranty expired $$$.

Alternator.

Also I have replaced the brakes every 13,000 miles.

General Comments:

Coming from a Toyota, I expected reliability. This Grand Am is not only unreliable, it has broken down places leaving me stranded on highways. The electrical problems started one month after my warranty expired. I pay to have it fixed, and something else goes wrong. I recommend that any other Grand Am owners with electrical problems call the Pontiac number in the back of your owners manual. Tell them you want your problem on file. Ask for your case number. This car is a potential fire hazard.

Faults:

Brake pads went at 32,000.

Rotors seem to be a little warped, but do not seem to affect braking in a negative way, just a slight pulsation.

Mist came out of air vents when the A/C was on. Adding more antifreeze solves this problem.

General Comments:

Pontiac 6 cylindar cars have a 60 degree engine design which has WEAK pistons. If you add a nitrous oxide system, I recommend that you first upgrade your pistons.

Faults:

The shift knob started coming off and wouldn't allow you to shift unless you pushed it back down.

General Comments:

The car is a very good looking car. It also rides pretty decent for a sports car. I was not satisfied with the take off power of the 3.1 compared to my previous car.

None So Far.

General Comments:

Redesigned from the ground-up: stronger unibody, better suspension, more standard equipment, etc. Sharp new looks inside and out. (Have you seen the dashboard?) Pontiac's beefed-up four-cylinder is a fun little engine and surprisingly quick. Be forewarned - improvements come at a cost, averaging about $1,000-$2,000 more.
