1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4

Summary:

Great car for the price

Faults:

Wheel Alignment by previous owner.

Battery replacement by previous owner.

Replace alternator at 33,000.

Slight oil seepage, but nothing I'm worried about.

General Comments:

Car looks good and is fun to drive. I have had no problems so far that I am concerned about, however I do not drive the car much and when I do it's mostly highway driving. Time will tell.

The only thing I really hate are the automatic headlights. I would like to be able to turn them on and off when I want to.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

You can fix the automatic lights. I, myself don't know how, but my husband did it. he said he just had to remove a fuse? the only downfall with that is the "service vehicle" light will be on, because it is missing the fuse. otherwise, we can turn the lights on and off as we please... which is really nice. He says he knows how to turn off the service light, so we'll work on that too. If you want, you can e-mail me, and I can send you info of how to do it... when my husband is around. Spitfire_fox420@hotmail.com. All I know it only took a couple minutes. so it was obviously easy. Later. Mia.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE2 2.4L Twin Cam

Summary:

Great car... very minor problems

Faults:

Rear reverse light on passenger side has water and dirt in it, causing it to be dimmer than the driver's side light..

Passenger side headlight is cloudy for some reason (seems abrasive)

Altenator went out at 96000..

Lot of shakes and rattles from rear end... replaced rear sway bar bushing seemed to fix the noise...

Drivers side brake caliper leaking brake fluid, replaced at 104,500..

Check engine light comes on and turns off whenever it feels like it.. (probably 02 sensor)

Creaking noise in front end when going around corners (think its the front strut mounts) (94000miles)

Drivers side seat creaks...

Passenger side window has scratches on outside (already scratched when purchased)

I now seem to be losing coolant slowly (still not fixed)

It sounds like theres squirrels congregating in my steering column.

That's about it... all minor stuff...

General Comments:

Not sure what to say... i love this car to death... got great deal on it... its beautiful inside out out... handles like a sports car... has very quick acceleration... very minor problems so far... engine runs, idles, shifts smoothly and quietly, and it sounds pretty mean when you step on it (at least for a 4 cyl...

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4L

Summary:

I love my grand am- there are problems. like every other car.

Faults:

-intake manifold went out at 99,000 miles (before knowing this coolant leaked)

-the leather on the doors has come apart

-driver side power window does not go down as you would like, I have to push the button a few times

-along with the general maintenance (oil, brakes, tires, struts, etc.)

-paint chipping on front bumper

-back reverse lights fill up with water and short out.

General Comments:

Although I have put some money into this car I love it!! Since I know a few mechanics and can get my car worked on cheaply I do not mind some minor things happening.

This is a quick car (I had a shift kit put in it so it accelerates quickly) and comfortable for trips.

I love the sound system in my car, it is not just a cheap set of speakers they have some kick to them!

This is an affordable and super cute car! And when it's clean it shines like no other!!!

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 6 cylinder

Summary:

Becoming a money pit, with things that shouldn't go wrong with a car well-maintained

Faults:

Where do I start? While I love this car, since I have had it (since I paid it off!), I have had lots of work done. Three batteries, alternator, coils, and the biggie, all six fuel injectors replaced in Mar. 2004. Then, in Nov. 2004, one went bad and had to replace again. Now, today, Feb. 2006, one went bad again! I asked why, when all replaced new only two years ago that I have had two of them go? I was told that GM cars, 93-99, seem to have this problem and should have been recalled due to fuel injector problems, but GM never did recall. In addition, they are very labor expensive to replace since the manifold is built over them and make them hard to get to. Oh and, the lights. I have had them replaced numerous times, only to be told finally that the factory installed bulb housing was causing the short-out. As I said, I love my car and bought it brand new late 1998. She is not being faithful to me though and probably will not buy another GM car again.

General Comments:

Very nice looking car, handles very well, which is why I bought it.
