1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4
Summary:
I would buy another Grand Am, but probably not used
Faults:
Brakes were replaced 5-6 times within 2 1/2 yrs.
Replaced a security system sensor, which would not allow car to start. I would have to sit in the car until the light stopped flashing (10-15 minutes), try again and car would start. $587 to replace.
ABS light would come on while holding in brake pedal for several mintues. EX. waiting in line at the bank.
Replaced the ignition switch.
I have also had to replace the struts. Strut busted and tore out a chunk from the inside of the drivers tire.
Problems with ETS (Enhanced tracking system) light. This would come on for no reason at all.
General Comments:
I did love my Grand Am very much, but I just couldn't afford to keep sinking money into it. It was at 92000 miles and I often wondered what would happen when it hit 100,000.
The Grand Am has great pick and go for a 4 cylinder.
Great gas mileage.
Very sporty, roomy for only being a 2 door.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

You do realize that brakes wear out the same on pretty much every car. They aren't Pontiac brake pads, they're an independent company that has a contract with Pontiac to use them on their new cars. Once you buy the car, use whatever brand you want. So if your brakes wear out easily don't blame the car manufacturer, blame the brake pad manufacturer. Unless your caliper pistons suddenly gained strength, in which case enjoy the shorter braking distances. If you want your brakes to last longer, replace them with better quality ones, or... slow down.
