Faults:

The door panel trim on the top is separating from the panel. The rear doors were not even glued down. Front trim was, but is separating anyway.

Trac Off light and ABS light come on when drivnig on gravel or when I cross a cattle guard.

General Comments:

Car as been very reliable. I have only changed the oil, plugs, air filter, and brakes (once). No other repairs.

My wife was hit from behind by a Tercel, which then had to be towed. Our Grand Am did not look any worse for wear other than a few scratches and a hole in the license plate. The foam under the rear bumper assembly was not even damaged.

Faults:

New brake rotors and pads at 22,000 miles.

New alternator at 37,000 miles.

Intake gasket failure at 62,000 miles.

New engine at 68,000 miles.

Various interior problems such as door covering that is coming off and carpet that is coming up.

General Comments:

If this car is "fuel for the soul" then my soul is on empty!

Faults:

My Grand Am SE2 was great for the first year. After the first 12 everything went to pot.

Year 2-3 21000 to 34000 the car was towed to the dealer 4 times.

1. 2 bad fuel injectors.

2. 2 bad ignition coil packs a couple of spark plugs and some ignition wires.

3. Bad fuel injectors again.

4. Fuel injector cleaning (the car was only running on 3 of 6 cylinders).

34000 the Intake Manifold Gasket was replaced due to oil leaks.

We also had the drivers tail light replaced for water leaks and the fuel door had to be fixed be cause it would not close... (dirt collecting under the body of the car)

45000 we had another fuel injector nightmare. This was fixed with a bottle of Chevron Injector Cleaner (Real Good Stuff)

47000 the Blower Motor Resistor took a crap!!

General Comments:

I guess compared to everyone else with the GTs we are about average, but I'll never buy a GM car again. I simply can't imagine this type of crap happening with a Toyota or a Honda. I can accept something silly happening as all things can break, but most of this stuff should never happen or atleast not happen for a good 150,000 miles.

Faults:

What hasn't gone wrong.

5 sets of rotors.

Knock in the motor - dealership wanted to drop a new motor in it, but the warranty people said no. So the dealership replaced half of the motor trying to fix it.

It has been ran through an acid bath 3 times from the rail dust rusting in the paint. (from the car being shipped by train)

The am part of the radio has NEVER worked.

The stereo and the speakers have been replaced twice.

The ignition module went bad and was pulling the battery down.

Well the battery died and then burnt up the alternator.

So before we found out it was the ignition modulator we replaced the battery twice and the alternator twice and the starter.

It would run fine for a few days then all of a sudden it would not crank at the oddest places. (like the gas pump)

Well come to find out it was the neutral relay switch.

It was going bad and making the computer think that the car wasn't in park.

The rear defroster in the glass went out and had to replace it.

And the gasket around the trunk and the gaskets around the doors leak.

Cigarette lighter doesn't work any more.

The motor mount came loose and was causing the motor to tweak every time it was cranked.

The fog lights went on the (blink) and a cop pulled me over thinking I was warning on coming traffic that he was there.

All this has happened in under 100,000 miles, and we still owe $5000 on it.

General Comments:

The only thing that has lasted is the tires 100000 miles.

I suggest if you are going to buy a Grand Am you buy the Extended warranty. You WILL need it.

It does handle the curves very well!
