1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4 Ram Air V-6

Summary:

Junk. Stay away

Faults:

Brakes and rotors. Again and again and again and...

Electrical problems-turn signals, blower motor.

Interior parts coming apart - inner door panels, mouldings.

Valves tick for a minute when started.

General Comments:

I hate this car and am fighting with the dealer to dump it. I have never had a problem with a dealership as bad as this one. They have cut the rotors 3 times and now they replaced them. But I lease and pay $20 a month for an extended warranty (4 year) and they said they will not cover the brakes anymore - like it's my fault! My mother-in-law has a 95 Altima with 60,000 miles and hasn't touched ANYTHING except the tires and maintenence. Shame on GM for not recalling these junk cars!!!

Maybe your car was a lemon...? I have a 1999 GT1 Sedan and it's been a good car. The only problem was the radio. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this car.

I have a 99 Grand Am GT and it's a piece of junk. I have had my car for a total of about 9 days this month. This time my car just won't start. They tried to say that it was my alarm...wrong. Now they think that it is my battery. When we went to pick it up, it also had been broken into right in front of the garage doors. But I have also had my rotors replaced 3 times, 2 new radios, 2 new motors in my passenger window, new sensors all around my car, I have problems with my ABS, low-trac always comes on, and the list goes on. We are also trying to work something out with GM headquarters. All with only 30200 miles

Hello, I have had my pontiac grand am gt for 3 DAYS, not only does it run hot, but they just called me and told me the head is cracked, but I guess that's what I get for buying a used car, i was just thinking about the looks of the car when I bought it nothing else, but like I said I guess this will teach me a thing or two about buying a car on looks alone.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE2 3.4L V-6

Summary:

Excellent all around car!

Faults:

Put 25,000 miles on since bought with very few problems.

Replaced front brakes (pads only, & turned the rotors) once so far - rear brakes are A-OK, factory original at 55K (estimated 95% use left!).

Dealer replaced window regulator (covered by additional insurance bought with the car).

Dealer replaced the fan control unit for the heater/AC (again, covered).

Replaced accessory belt ($180) at 55K.

General Comments:

Great car - good feel on the road, both city and highway.

Handles like a champ.

Don't like the automatic shift points - want a manual!

Brakes DEFINITELY good enough (these other reviewers need to have their brakes serviced!).

Interior comfortable and adequate - seats folding down a big plus - can fit amazing amounts of stuff in it for a 2 door!

Inexpensive to repair (go GM!).

Would definitely buy another Pontiac - was unsure of buying a "cheap" American car, but it's worth it 110% - great first car, fun to drive, comfortable, cheap to maintain. I love it!

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT Ram Air V6

Summary:

ABSOLUTE dream to own and drive!

Faults:

NOTHING!! Not one thing has gone wrong with it.

I do wonder if any other owners of this particular model have people at night flashing their headlights indicating our lights are too bright.

General Comments:

We love this car.

It starts on sub-zero days.

It rides nicely.

Responds quickly, and eats up most any car on the road.

We recently had a remote control starter put in. WE LOVE IT.

I also own a 1999 Grand Am GT with ram air. The only thing I did to the car is add a K&N air filter, the car really moves.

The only inconveience I had with my car was the problem with my brakes and rotors. I had a pulse station with my brakes and my rotors were warped. Otherwise the car is awesome and would give a good word to anyone.

Thank you, CG
