1999 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

I still love it, but the parts are expensive and sometimes a pain to get!

Faults:

Front wheel bearings.

CV axles.

Output shaft seal.

General Comments:

Well I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand AM SE. We purchased it in 2006 for 2200 dollars.

Have had no problems with the alternator or window. However have had to change the front wheel bearings and had to replace CV axles. This has cost us about 400 dollars.

The output shaft seal on the transmission went out. It was only an eight dollar part. So other than the pain in the butt part of figuring out how to put transmission fluid in and where, I am very happy with my car.. and refuse to get rid of it. I can't help it.. mine is red... well hope this helped.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am LX V6

Summary:

Performs great once you've spent your life savings on it

Faults:

1. Windows motors or brackets went bad all four windows.

2. Radio not worth 2 cents.

3. Passlock security problems.

4. Fuel gauge that's in the gas tank has been replaced.

5. Had motor replaced at 150,000 miles.

General Comments:

I like to comment on other Grand Am owners and give them advice. Once you reached 125,000 miles and you have engine work like head gasket or valves something like that, don't worry with it. Go ahead and have a brand new engine put in it with all the other stuff like alternator, water pump, belts, hoses, new plugs, wires, the whole nine yards. If you don't, you just go back and forth to the shop getting stuff fix. You come out cheaper just following my advice. I've got over 6,000 in repairs 3,500 recently for a new engine, towing, etc...

Also if you haven't experienced window problems yet, just go ahead and have every door broke down and have the cheap plastic brackets replaced with steel brackets, or do what you can to make your windows working properly. Most Grand Am owners will tell ya there window motors and bracket problems.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4

Faults:

Well my brakes make a noise when you press on brake pedal.

My struts are junk; all four need to be replaced.

The trunk leaks water some how.

The stereo flutters on and off; won't turn up unless you push the knob to the right and then turn it up.

I really think the front windshield is at too much of a slope, or the dash is too glossy. It causes bad sun glare from the gauge humps and heater vents in the center of the dash.

My driver's seat doesn't move up or down.

Besides that, the car runs pretty good for now.

Oh yeah, both side windows had to have the regulators replaced also.

Good luck to everyone who owns one. Thanks for heads up on the other things.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am LE 4 cylinder

Summary:

Transmission went fast!

Faults:

I lost my transmission at 75000 miles.

General Comments:

The seats sit down low, but is comfortable if you like the sporty feel of a ride. Can be a high maintenance vehicle, especially when my tranny went after only 75000 miles.
