2000 Pontiac Grand Am es 3.4sfi

Summary:

A cheap affordable car for the first time buyer

Faults:

At 90,000 miles there was a minor leak from the engine coolant leading to the manifold. Luckily the problem was caught on time and the extended warranty only ran $100 deductible.

Had to replace the brakes and rotors also at 90,000 miles. Heck... not bad for the miles I put on it.

General Comments:

This car has an incredible amount of power for the 6 cy engine.

However, with the power comes the gas guzzler.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 3.4L 6 cylinder

Summary:

Fast and Seductive Beauty!

Faults:

-Brakes started pulsating around 77000. Replaced with ceramic pads and pulsating has subsided.

-Transmission shifted a little rough. This was remedied with Synthetic Trans Fluid.

General Comments:

I love my Grand Am. I do not understand how so many people could hate this car. Maybe is people would do some routine maintenance it would last longer.

I have never had a major problem with my Grand Am, nor has it ever let me down. I have installed a functional ram air hood, k&N cold air intake, performance computer, and a cat-back exhaust which took it over 200 horsepower.

The car itself rides a little rough, but not harsh. She handles great too! The seats are comfy, and the interior is nice as well as functional. I love the look of the car overall. The car has held up pretty good, especially with the Ohio roads. Maybe I was lucky, but it sure is a good car!

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 3.4

Summary:

Good looking, fun and affordable

Faults:

The front wheel bearings do not stay in the car. I have replaced the drivers side once and the passenger side 5 times with after market hubs.

The divers side seat back rest has fallen a part. I only weigh 170 pounds and it cannot take my weight. But very easy fix.

The signal light switch went south just after I bought the car, but was covered under the recall.

Typical GM stereo has mind of it's own.

General Comments:

I love the car, it has sexy lines, very fun to drive and comfortable. I would own another, but they quit making them.

Do my own work and is easy to work on, but have the hub replacement time down to 25 minutes.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE-1 3.4 Liter MFI

Summary:

Would not purchase it again

Faults:

Spark plug wires replaced, brakes redone and radiator flush at 100,00 km (62,00 miles).

New wheel bearings and brake discs installed at 137,000 km (85,000 miles).

New gas tank fuel sensor installed at 115,00 km (72,000 miles).

Waiting for intake manifold gasket to go, a common ailment of this car with the 3.4 V-6, normally occurs between 145,00 and 160,00 km. Possibly the early rad flush may avert this problem, do not know for sure.

General Comments:

Fuel efficient V-6 engine has low engine revolutions at 120 kilometres per hour (2K). Handles well and holds the road generally. I would not recommend the V-6 engine, possibly the 4 banger has less problems.

Everything you described in your review (except the fuel sensor) are normal maintenance items. You gave no reason why you disliked the car. Nothing lasts forever.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4 liter twin cam

Faults:

First my driver's window went out.

My passenger window went out.

General Comments:

It's a good car I think; a very good car.

I've raced a couple of cars (mostly stock) and won. One car was not a V6.

I say that the 2.4 liter 2000 Grand Am is actually quick for the size of the engine.

I've raced a 2005 Impala 3.4 liter, 1987 Malibu 3.4 liter, Chevrolet Caprice Classic 305, Lincoln Continental, 1996 Buick Century 3.1 liter, Nissan Altima 1997 straight four, a Grand Am 2001 3.4 liter, and lost to a souped up Honda Civic.

Does this car sound slow? Someone said that that their 2000 Grand Am GT wouldn't spin their tires. I don't think that's true.
