2000 Pontiac Grand Am
Summary:
Don't buy a Grand Am GT
General Comments:
Nothing but problems.
Don't buy one!
The steering wheel vibrates at 60 plus.
I replaced the tires at 10,000, but the shaking continues.
I have had electrical problems such as a blown radio, horn malfunction, blinker light malfunction, and both power windows breaking all within the first two years.
The vacuum hose fell off when I was going 45 miles per hour. After the tow, the mechanic at the dealership said that that should never happen.
Last year the tires were scraping. I took it in and they said that it was the rim rubbing against the tires, but they assured me that it was safe to drive (yeah, right). I had to replace the tires at 36,000 miles.
This year, I had some gasket leak, which caused the oil and coolant to mix... that was $1,300 to fix. Again, it was one of those "fluke" things that just does not happen to good vehicles.
I paid 22,000 for the car, and now have another 3,000 (at least) put into it for repairs. I do not feel safe in it due to all of the issues.
I am counting down the days when I can have it paid off, so I can trade it in. It has been a very unfortunate situation. I will never buy Pontiac again, and if you read this... hmmm... will you?
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I am 18 years old and am shopping for another Grand Am as my last one, a 1994 Grand Am Coupe, was totaled a little over a moth ago. I loved that little car and it had good mileage (which is needed when you're a teenager), and the problems it had were just old car problems, as it was not in the best shape. Also, as I am younger, and the car was older, I didn't treat it with the best of care and didn't realize how good of a car it was until a bus ended it days on the road. My mother also drives a Pontiac, a 2001 Aztek, which she loves, a few things have gone wrong with it, but none too major. Plus she drives 80 miles a day for work... that will eventually wear down a vehicle. We are very happy with our Pontiac's, but I understand your position as a car owner, because we have had the same problem with Fords and swear we will never buy one again, but I urge you to look at the Pontiac's as they have been nothing, but good for us.
