2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 306

Summary:

This car is the worst car ever!

Faults:

The windows all broke twice because they all have only plastic pieces holding them in place, and GM needs to do a recall on this product.

General Comments:

This car really sucks. I would not recommend buying this car.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 6 cylinder

Summary:

Beautiful but flawed

Faults:

Water pump blew at 45,000.

All four signal lights had to be rewired at 98,000.

Engine coolant leak at 105,000 miles. Had to replace gasket in the engine.

Plastic clasps in all four windows broke off the window regulator. Driver side window happened at 50,000 miles, the other 3 happened at 75,000 miles.

General Comments:

I love driving this car. It is powerful and smooth at the same time. However, every time I turn around there is something wrong with this car. It's not about the problems really, it's how they are resolved.

There was a recall on this car for the exact problem I had with the signal lights. When I brought it to the dealer, I was told it would not be covered under the recall, and it would cost $500.00 to repair. Then all the windows break. When I opened the door panel I found it was just the little tiny plastic clasp that was broken. All four windows, really... this is not covered under any kind of recall? It is unbelievable to spend so much money on this beautiful car, only to be nickel and dimed for the rest of the car's life.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Summary:

Maybe there are some good ones out there, but I sure got a money pit

Faults:

In 2003 the computer and harness went, costing about $700 to fix all the damage that was done to the braking system and installation. From there it has been a downhill spiral. I know some will say why did you not take it in for maintenance? I did, faithfully. Lots of times because a light would not stay on and register; there was nothing the mechanic could do.

June 2008 I had to replace the engine at a cost of well over $2000.

Within 2 weeks the computer which reads where the transmission is went. I replaced that to a tune of $300.

A short time later the car would start or not start, depending. I told the mechanic I thought it was the starter, but without it doing it for him 2 weeks straight, he was reluctant. Finally after 2 months of arguing and being stranded, he replaced it for $350.

Followed by the check engine light flashing on and off. I had it checked, but nothing registered on the computer, so the mechanic wouldn't do anything even when he was told it was skipping/slipping.

I have no more problems now as the transmission blew all over the place. I had oil and parts everywhere. This car has cost me well over $4000 to upkeep and I still owe another $3500. It doesn't seem to matter if you up keep a car or not.

2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 Ram Air

Summary:

The car is a money hog

Faults:

Well I guess we will start at week one. The brakes made a horrible screeching and crunching sound, so the car was taken back to the dealership at the end of week one, so they could look it over and adjust the brakes.

The tires are such an off size, which is great because no one ever has them on hand so you need to wait at least 3 days before they can get one in. They also lose air like a rotten balloon, on a regular basis. The rims are poorly made and don't seal to the tire correctly, which lets the air escape even faster. The stopping and grip of even snow tires is horrible, not a good car for snowy areas. I'm on my 3rd set of tires in 4 years.

The coolant system basically rots out of the car, the water pump has been replaced once by me, and 2 other times by 2 other owners.

When I start the car every time I drive it, I play a game, guess which dash lights light up in which groups. Lately it has been service vehicle soon, ABS, and Trac off, but the oil light regularly comes on as well as the low coolant while the coolant is filled up. The computer is shot in the car and it's not worth replacing.

General Comments:

The seats make your legs go numb after about 30 minutes of driving. The seat does not go back to a comfortable enough position for my legs to drive it for long periods of time; it hurt big time to drive it after I had knee surgery.

The car is quick but loud.

The speakers stink, as well as the sound system.

Save your money and buy a decent car.
