2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4

Summary:

Worthless

Faults:

I have an 01 Grand Am GT.

So far, intake gaskets have needed replaced, bad thermostat, transmission is on its way out and the power steering pump went this morning.

Check engine light goes on and off intermittently. Took to Auto Zone and nothing is coming up. Continuing problems with this car.

Would never buy a Pontiac of any kind again.

General Comments:

Looks nice, but they run like crap.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

The most reliable car I could ask for

Faults:

*I had to replace the pass-lock system at about 90,000miles.

*I had the blinker fixed due to a recall at about 90,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is the most reliable car I could ask for. I purchased the car used with about 52,000 miles. It was only 1 yr old at that time and I only paid $8,000. With a long commute I continued to rack up the miles. Today I have over 144,000 miles on the car and it is still going strong.

Yes the blinker system was recalled, but fixed for free.

I did have to replace the pass-lock system at about 90,000 miles.

Other than that I have done maintenance. It is incredible to find a car that last so long with so little problems.

For the price and the amount of miles I have been able to put on the car, it has been a dream come true.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am es

Faults:

I have owned this car since brand new. The fuel pump has been replaced once because the gauge wasn't reading properly. I have a bad ABS sensor and every time I hit a bump 3 lights on the dash light up. I recently had the key tumbler replaced because it was bad and the car wouldn't start, the security system shut the car down. Now the security light is on again. How much will I get soaked this time? I was told by a previous Grand Am owner not to buy this car because of the bad experience he had with his, I should have listened. This car is a money pit and I hope someone steals it...

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 2.4 DOHC

Summary:

Overall, I think this car is cheap reliable transportation with a sporty look

Faults:

My car began not starting intermittently in the winter of 2004. Dealer replaced lock cylinder. Winter 2005 rolls around and same thing. Dealer replaced ignition switch. Seems fine now.

Also in 2004, I started getting puddles of water on the driver's side floor. Took it to the dealer and they determined that the windshield was leaking around the bottom. Of course, it wasn't covered on the after-market warranty. I called Pontiac to see if they'd back up their car and they talked the dealer into doing it at no cost to me. They fixed the windshield and completely removed the interior to dry out the carpet.

The knobs for the climate controls are cheap! the dealer keeps these in stock for about $5 a pop. What's that tell you?

My driver's side window won't go down all the time. I suspect a bad window switch.

The rear defrost stopped working in the winter of 2005. The wire disconnected from the rear window.

I tried to go through an automatic car wash, and they informed me that they've been having a problem with Pontiac Grand Am and Grand Prix ripping their side mirrors off!! Supposedly, GM is aware of it and can't do anything for now.

I have the Monsoon stereo with the Cd player and the cassette player. I was cruising down the road jamming, and apparently blew the right rear 6x9.

General Comments:

Overall, I think this car is pretty good. It's been reliable since the ignition switch has been replaced. The last time I checked, it gets 26mpg for a mix of both town and highway driving. Performance is satisfactory and it rides nicely with little road noise. I just think some features were made pretty cheap.
