2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT 3.4

Summary:

Fast, 200000 miles, can hit 120mph still

Faults:

Rack replaced 4x.

New computer.

Replaced just about everything except the tranny; that's going now.

General Comments:

Love it, and want to supercharge it.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4 twin cam

Summary:

Every car will last forever if you take care of them

Faults:

Water pump.

Fuel pump.

Window regulator.

General Comments:

Well thinks to the car forums and web site, it makes taking care of the car very easy. It's like when something goes wrong, you already knew it was gonna happen. My only problem with this car is the water pump.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4

Faults:

Same kind of issues as most people. First the power steering pump went twice on warranty (which was good).

Then it was coolant problems; they replaced the thermostat, the reservoir, and the reservoir cap. This is after having my car for 3 weeks.

Continued to have coolant problems, and it ended up being the head gasket; $2500 to replace.

All in all, after them finally figuring out it's the head gasket, I have put out $5800 into a car that's lucky to be worth $3000, which really ticked me off, because I obviously would not have paid this, but they kept saying it was something else. They did reimburse me $800.

Now today I have a growl in my transmission.

Also my brakes are grinding, and I just had them replaced and the rotors turned.

What does a person do now that I have put out this much money?

WARNING to all Grand Am owners - my car was pretty good to me, and now is nothing but problems. Once they start causing problems, get rid of it.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4

Summary:

Great car, but many problems!

Faults:

First day I took the car home, it stalled.

At 119,400 miles, coil packs had to be replaced.

Driver speaker blew.

I love this car. Simply because it is my first ever. But with the summer months approaching, I regret getting this car.

Whenever I am idled with the A/C on, my RPM needle drops. It's almost like my car struggles to stay alive while the air is on. And it hesitates when I have the A/C on.

When I'm getting up to 60 mph on the interstate, the car stutters between 3 and 4 RPM.

The brakes suck too.

General Comments:

All in all, I love my car. It's comfortable, turns on a dime, and is good looking.

But if anyone out there has had A/C problems, you know how bad it sucks. I would not tell anyone to get a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE.

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Summary:

Electrical problems galore

Faults:

Electrical problems of all kinds are non-stop with this car. The lights stay on, the radio shorted out, the check engine light won't turn off, warning lights are random and need resets.

General Comments:

It would be an OK car if it could just go a full week without breaking down and leaving us stranded. No wonder Pontiac went out of business. What is wrong with the USA that we can't make a car that is not an embarrassment to us?

2001 Pontiac Grand Am GT

Summary:

Massive never ending headache

Faults:

I bought my 01 6-cylinder used from good friend, and for the first 6 months it was great, then everything went wrong.

I had to replace the blower fan in the A/C.

I have had to replace both front wheel bearings, and now need to replace one again.

Have just replaced 2 tie rods.

2 of the grey interior panels have come off, making it quite chilly in the winter due to the fact that the door is no longer fully sealed.

Check engine and service vehicle lights are always coming on and off, and the exterior lights go out a lot.

Passlock security systems locks me out, so I have to sit for 10 minutes waiting for it to start.

General Comments:

This car is definitely a lemon. I'm car shopping now because a car payment and full coverage will be less a month than what I am averaging per month to fix its endless problems. Fix one thing and another breaks.

My new car will NOT be a Pontiac.
