Faults:

Engine swap (blew rods through oil pan and most of the block), fuel pump, many wrecks, ignition problems most recently, but thought to be fixed.

Now the security system, driver seat swap out, blinker switch ticking all the time.

Drivers side window problems with plastic guides.

Faults:

Shocks squeaked 54,000 Miles.

Power Steering system faliure 56,000 miles.

Signal Selector Switch is malfunctioning.

ABS SVS Trac Off lights come on because of wheel hub problem.

Driver side window motor replaced 67,000 miles.

Wheel Bearings need replacing 70,000 miles - Present.

Crappy Brakes dirty up the wheels.

General Comments:

This car is pretty quick when filled with 93 octane.

It looks great when it's clean.

The seats are less than comfortable.

It handles just like my old Malibu.

Faults:

Wheel HUB numerous times. Had to be replaced at least twice on each side.

Air Conditioner constantly leaks, doesn't blow cold.

Passenger seat will not lock into place.

Miror remote stick fell into the door.

General Comments:

I loved this car when I first got it. The two door Grand Am looks beautiful, and is quite peppy. No problem passing, accelerating with the 2.4L engine.

It is decently comfortable for the driver, and the rear passengers have plenty of room, but the middle seat in the back is hard... really hard.

Trunk is fairly large.

Sounds system is quite decent. The two 6x9's make as much bass as a small woofer.

Overall, it's a good car, I just feel like it is going to start falling apart quickly... Therefore I am selling it.

Love my car!

I own a 2002 Grand Am SE Black, 2.2L with a 5-manual Tran.

Haven't had any major problems with it so far, save for a window regulator on the passenger side.

Very efficient and although it lacks the power of a V6, the looks and overall performance on the highway makes up for it.

I took it to South Padre Island last summer, (I live in San Antonio, Tx) and spent about $35 in gas. That, to me says it all.

I use nothing, but Mobil 1 EP Full Synthetic Oil and One Quart of an Oil stabilizer every other oil change regularly. Also every other full tank of gas I include a quality additive to keep the injectors and fuel lines clean. Because I am of the opinion that if you take proper care of your vehicle, it will reciprocate, it so to speak.

I recently replaced the outside mirrors with the stylish GT version, which have an aerodynamic hole that in my opinion gives it a better look. I plan on upgrading the tire and wheel size to maybe a 17 inch size to make it look bigger like it's big brother the Grand Prix.

Faults:

I've had problems with the brakes and rotors. They make grinding sounds and had to be replaced. The driver side window motor has gone out. And the lighter device has a blown fuse.

General Comments:

The car is nice. I've had the car for 4 years and I've pretty much have only had to do the normal maintenance as expected on an aging car. I believe the quality depends on the shape the car is in at the time of the purchase and how well the car is maintained once in the owner's possession.

Faults:

I’ve had front-end problems from the start. Shortly after I got the car, the ABS light came on and a grinding noise started coming from the front wheels.

Upon inspection the pads were new, but the rear of the pads had a dimple that pushed directly on the piston cup of the caliper wedging the brakes sideways slightly. This caused a small dent in the caliper piston. The front-end bearings are sealed units, and you can get cheap or expensive replacement assemblies.

I’ve seen bearings go at 60000 up to 120000, but they are simple to replace.

If you buy an OBD2 reader for around 100-150 bucks, you can clear your own codes and check for faults. Well worth one trip to the diagnostics shop.

General Comments:

The car is not all bad, but I have a mechanical background. I have a problem with the dash lights/dimmer switch not illuminating the gauges and will post how I fixed it later.

The manufacturer should spend more money on their front bearing assemblies and braking system. FYI the link for the OBD2 reader is under the dash above the pedals on the driver’s side. It’s saved my family and me several hundred in diagnostics.
