2002 Pontiac Grand Am

Summary:

Good car, but I'm having my worries!

Faults:

Shortly after we got the car, the interior dome light was acting temperamental. We have just been living with this issue--since we park in the garage at night, the lack of interior light in the car isn't really a big deal.

HOWEVER! In the last 2 weeks, the dome light problem has fixed itself, and a new issue has emerged. The clicker for the signals just goes off by itself! I'm afraid to take it in--electrical stuff is never cheap!

I figured the dome light was not properly installed, but now that it is working and this new problem has come up, I'm worried it's something more!

General Comments:

Overall the car has been serving us wonderfully!

We were a little upset to have the windshield crack after only 3 weeks of owning the car, but that's not the car's fault!

The dealership was okay to deal with. We were disappointed when we picked up the car and had been told it was detailed. A couple of days later, we pulled the emergency brake up and found cigarette ashes in the material around the brake.

I bought a 2002 Grand Am GT in 2004 with 28,000 miles on it. The only things I have had to change is the tires & brakes. My car has the clicking noise too & and if you didn't know this, there was a recall for the clicking noise of the blinker. So if your car does this, you should call your dealer and find out if there is a recall on it.Overall, my car has been very reliable for me.

Summary:

The stress of dealing with my Grand Am GT has probably taken years off my life

Faults:

You should ask... "What things haven't gone wrong with the car?"

General Comments:

I have had countless problems with my GT from day one. And when I say "day one", I really mean DAY ONE. I purchased it brand new and the first full day I had it, it stalled three times and on the final stall, it would not restart. Since then, I have had a number of problems with the transmission and a number of wiring and electrical problems, including shorting out of essential components, split wires in the transmission, turn signal blinking out of control. Oh, yeah. I too have had problems with my starter. Aside from all the problems, there is also the matter of the cost and short life span of the parts. I've never owned a domestic car that had parts as expensive as the Grand Am GT. And it seems like the brakes and rotors wear out way too fast! If I had to do it all over again, I would NOT have purchased this car. And if I had the money to afford another car, I would use a sledgehammer to smash my GT to pieces. Man, that would feel good.

I have never had one second's problem with my 6 year old Grand Am, and don't know anyone who owns one that hasn't felt it was one of the best cars they ever owned. As for brake pads wearing out too quick, I am a mechanic and I can assure you that no car (foreign or domestic) should ever require a brake job before 60,000+ miles unless the driver tail-gates and rides the brakes constantly.

I used to wish I had the GT instead of the 4-cylinder SE model, but from the reviews it seems the GT's are much more trouble-prone cars. I haven't had even one problem yet with my 2001 SE model 4 cylinder. I love everything about it.

Summary:

Sick!

Faults:

Exhaust manifold replaced at 25000 miles dues to production fault. Oil leak at 40000 miles Oil sensor was faulty.

General Comments:

I used to drive a 1999 grand prix GTP and I seriously think this 2002 Gt rides and handles better with a higher top speed I like this 2002 Grand Am GT Better.
