Faults:

Most of the problems I have had with this car were with the brakes. I've had to have the brakes replaced 3 times now in the past 2 years.

Now with my car having kind of high mileage, it's starting to sound different and louder than before. It still sounds great, but just different, which is expected.

General Comments:

Overall, I haven't had any major problems with the car and I really love driving it. It's a nice car that is fast enough for me with its 3.4 liter V6.

The car is very appealing inside and out, and drives very smoothly.

People always tell me that when Pontiacs start having problems, you can't fix them. But I know that it's all about how you drive and take care of the car. If you treat your Grand Am with respect and change the oil every 3,000 miles, you shouldn't have any problems. At least I never have because I've taken good care of it.

Faults:

Has an inadvertent clicking noise. The same noise that you get when you use the turn signal. But it makes the noise whenever it feels like it. The dealer is either unable to hear it, or just unwilling to do anything about it.

I have always been a Pontiac man, but this car sucks. It rides rough, has a lot of road noise. Just very cheaply built. Not a good quality car by any means.

It has every option including the V6 and the moon roof. The car looks good, has plenty of power, and gets excellent gas mileage. This is the first Grand Am I have had, and it's also the last!

General Comments:

It's quick, gets excellent mileage, seems to be reliable, and looks good.

Lots of road noise, hard riding, very uncomfortable. And the clicking it makes is enough to drive anyone crazy!

GM's later vehicles are just cheaply built. If you're going to buy American, look at a Ford.

Faults:

I love my car, but I have had a lot of problems with it.. and the biggest problem I have had is it not starting sometimes. I see that many people have problems with it, and let's just say I have a trick that makes it start, if you don't have the money to get it fixed right away.

My car, like once or twice a month, would turn over but wouldn't start, as if the battery was dead. I would have the car towed, and when the mechanics would go out to bring it in, they would try and start it, and it would start right up. They thought I was crazy saying my car wouldn't start. They didn't know what was wrong. Found out one time that it was something with the security system and would have to bring it to the dealer to have it fixed. Couldn't afford it, finally once it happened again, went to different mechanic, called on the phone and asked what was going on? He then told me to go turn the key to where it says on, not try and start it... let it sit for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then turn the key back to normal and try and start it. I did that and it started right up for me. My security light would be flashing and once that stopped I knew it was time to start it. Since then I haven't had any problems after getting a new ignition put in. Well I hope that helps anyone with the same problem!
