1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L

Summary:

Not built for high mileage

Faults:

Battery went dead and the alternator soon followed.

Rear leaf spring splintered on the drivers side.

Fuel pump broke.

2 foot crack in the middle of the windshield.

Drivers door handle broke on the inside of the door. Couldn't open door from the outside.

Rear defroster not fully working.

The latch on the hood gets stuck sometimes so it becomes impossible to open the hood no matter how many times you pull on the hood release lever.

Back passenger side power window button broke and fell inside arm console.

Car jolts when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear.

Leaking lots of oil. Was leaking transmission fluid, but then stopped for some reason.

General Comments:

Very comfortable seats.

The structure of the car is built well so there has never been any rattling.

I have never replaced the shocks on the car and it has a very smooth ride due to the suspension.

I put a lot of money into repairs. I won't be getting another older Pontiac.

It sounds like this car was abused, because I never had any of these problems except the excessive oil consumption.

1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 V6

The coolest thing ever!

Alternater went at 145,000 miles.

Manifold began to "click" at 147,000 miles.

Both fog lights went out at 148,000 miles.

Driver's side power lock stopped working at 149,000 miles.

General Comments:

This, is my second car, and is my second Pontiac made vehicle.

Though expensive to get fixed, this car was a bargain to begin with, and I would recommend a Grand Prix to anyone wo thinks that they are neat.

The thing with Grand Prixs are that they just look awesome just sitting somewhere, and when you get in her you don't have to worry about anyone laughing at you.

General Comments:

If I forget about all the problems I've had with this car, I loved it! From the the way it handles to the acceleration. I bought the car used in 1999 with 95,000 for $4,500 from a auto auction, not bad when your as desperate for a car as I was. Seemed like after the first 6 months everything started happening. Winters are rough, start the car up, but you got to wait a good 5-10 min before you can shift it out of drive otherwise the car will slowly roll forward or backward, pending on what gear your in. Took it to a couple of places and told me I needed all the fluids drained well a wasted $100 later and I find out out I need a Transmission rebuild, ($900),probably not. I'm currently looking into a 2003 Grand Prix.. hopefully she'll treat me better than this one has.

1994 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Super charged V6

Summary:

A love/hate relationship

Faults:

The struts failed, and had to be replaced with a thick plastic covering. It makes a strange rubbing sound when turning corners.

It likes to eat oil like there's no tomorrow.

The driver-side door makes a click noise, when opened or shut.

Various, small problems with the engine.

The CD player works when it wants to, usually stalling to give the CD back. It makes repeated clicking sounds.

General Comments:

I love this car. The seats are very comfortable, like I could just sleep on them.

The steering is very tight and to my liking.

The brakes rule. They make no sounds, the car just doesn't like to stop sometimes, because I drive it so fast.

I can get to max speed without the car getting the shakes.

It's a pretty heavy car, so the weather doesn't bother me. It has 2nd Gear start, so it stays in one place, even on slick roads.

Your oil consumption might be due to the drive shaft o-ring being shot. Or else they are known to leak behind the timing belt. The o-ring will set you back about $900, I'm not sure about the one behind the timing belt.
