1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 Supercharged

Summary:

To date low cost of ownership, good fun to drive and quite practical too!

Faults:

Heating blower motor replaced (by dealer under warranty) - I did not see a problem 27000 miles.

Power window motor replaced (by dealer under warranty) - I did not see a problem 10000 miles.

Lenses on front headlights came off - put back in place successfully with white caulk - 40000 miles.

Passenger foot-well filled with rainwater once (2inches) 55000 miles - not happened since.

Tensioner on serpentine belt 'eroded' - nothing left of rubber - replaced tensioner and belt after 65000miles.

Occasionally get weird sound on CD/radio - especially when wet (!)

A/c not cold @ 70000 miles - probably needs recharging.

General Comments:

Car has great trunk space - can get a mountain bike in it with the wheels removed. All can be locked in the trunk.

Performance is great - seriously fast if you floor it.

If you are easy on the gas can get 25mpg on the highway.

Can seat 5 adults fairly comfortably.

Handles really well in the New England weather.

Seats are OK, but a little thin in front.

Don't like the 'pleather' on the doors where the seats have real leather.

Sports car, but quite practical.

Cheap to insure in MA compared with Japanese and German cars with better performance - saved overall. Wife has a 2000 Nissan Maxima with more mileage and more problems...

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.8

Summary:

This GP has been very reliable for us

Faults:

Alternator replaced at 65K miles.

No major items replaced other than normal maintenance, brakes, oil changes service cooling, battery, etc.

General Comments:

We purchased it as a dealer demo. The car came as a loaded SE model. I like the power of the 3.8 L motor, very smooth. The car isn't the best riding model, but it handles great. Although I'm not canyon carving every day on my way to work and home.

I'm aware that there are more powerful motors and extravagant creature comforts offered today, but for 1998 this is/was a great car to drive and own.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8 Litre V6

Summary:

I love this car and would buy another in a heartbeat

Faults:

I had the alternator go out after 2,000 miles of having it.

General Comments:

I love this car, not much has broke down.

I love the leather interior.

My friends all love this.

I get great mileage from it.

Definitely a chick magnet.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 supercharged V6

Summary:

Its like a rocket on wheels!

Faults:

Supercharger idler pulley froze up.

Passenger window motor went out.

General Comments:

I love the cars handling and it has amazing acceleration.

The interior has a ton of room and very aggressive styling.

Overall this is one of the best cars that I have ever owned and I am extremely pleased with it.

I have owned several different brands and models of cars in the past and this one is by far the most exciting car to own and drive.

I was just wondering how does it perform on the highway? Does it get up and pass or do you need a far bit of clear road? Also does it ride good over bumps or is harse? Thank for any comments.

I had the same problem with the supercharger idler pulley. Quick and cheap fix though.

The power through 1st gear is incredible - highway acceleration isn't as great, but it's definately better than 70% of the cars out there. You won't be dissapointed.

How does it perform on the highway? It's amazing! I love my GTP so much. As far as needing room to pass - I always say the thing I love most is it has such incredible power that you can go sideways if you have to. Can't say enough about it.

1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8

Summary:

This car has been one of the most trouble free cars I have owned, and this is my fifteenth car

Faults:

I had an extended warranty so right before it expired at 100,000 I had the dealer do a complete check of everything. Besides regular maintenance, like coolant flush and serpentine belt, this is what was replaced; upper manifold gasket, bearing and hub assembly right front wheel, and the radio display lights were not working.

Around 120,000 the alternator had to be replaced.

General Comments:

The car mostly saw highway and back road miles. I changed the brakes every 60,000 miles, though they hardly needed it. Oil was changed when indicator light came on.

Great traveling car, good ride and handling. Could have been a bit peppier when passing.

Good gas mileage for a car this size and horsepower, around 25 mpg.

I read comments about bad paint. This has to be one of the best paint jobs I have seen on a car. Got waxed twice a year. The finish still beads and looks like new.

Overall I have been very pleased with this car.
