My headlight cover fell off requiring a whole new headlight to be bought at a cost of $200.
Wishshield leaks when it rains.
Orange dash lights look awesome.
Super rocking speed.

It's OK, but could be better
Radio and compact disc player have been replaced twice.
Sun roof switch and motor have both been replaced.
Control panel in the driver's side door has been replaced.
Blower switch replaced at 20,000 miles.
The clips that holds the inside door panels on have also been replaced.
Light in the passenger side door fell out and needed to be replaced.
There are other things that I could list, but who has that kind of time?
The car handles very well around bends and has great pick up.
The cup holders leave a lot of room for improvement, your coffee ends up on the floor if you stop fast.
I'm glad I did not get all of the bells and whistles on this car with all of the parts that have been replaced so far.
On a lighter note, at least it does not have any engine problems.

Drives nice with many other mechanical problems
The car's windows shake.
The clock/CD/FM/AM digital display is scrambled 33% of the time.
At 28,000 miles the car dies when it is idle in park or at a red light.
The RPM tach dies when driving and the Trac light comes on.

A very solid car
I have only one major problem with this car. I was lucky it was still under warranty at 34000 miles. The seal between the engine and transmission blew.
The other problem I have had, is that both headlight covers fell off within 6 months of each other after my warranty. With a little persistence with my dealer, they only charged me for labor to put them on - 35 bucks a piece, not bad for a 100 dollar part.
With the problems I have had, I would consider buying another Pontiac. The dealer really came through when I needed them to, and that meant a lot.

Best bang for the buck, what took GM so long to release a performance front wheel drive car
You know most cars are not perfect and they are mechanical objects built, serviced, and operated by people.
So with that being said, things go wrong. I have had a water pump go out, rear passenger dome light stopped working (four door model). The volume control froze on the steering wheel.
Unless a motor blows, or the trannie locks up, things are going to happen. I say to all the cry babies out there you don't deserve the privilege of owning a Grand Prix.
If you want a performance street rod, with the luxuries close to Lexus or a Cady, get your butt up, and get down to your local Pontiac dealership.
This car, seriously, has the best of both worlds. Exceptionably soft and comfortable seats. Nice layout of the dash. By the way, the people out there talking about the fact the air conditioning controls are too low, well think about how many goodies they shoved in the dash, there is only so much room in the dash. Besides, if it bothers you so much, go buy a Monty Carlo. Just remember you'll be looking at my Borla tail pipes.
If any one out there is undecided on on a Grand Prix, for the money there is no better car out there. I bought mine in 1998 and have not looked back, and I have Trans-Am blood in my veins. But spend the extra couple grand and get the GTP. You will be unhappy with the SE or even the GT.

I had an Audi A-4 turbo (which I loved) but I totaled it and it is gone. I bought the 1998 Pontiac GTP and it would definitly blow that Audi off the road. I have had minor problems. It has 59,000 miles on it and the tension idler froze and broke my serpentine belt. The passenger front side window stopped rolling down and the divers side front window wouldn't stay up. All these things were covered by the extended warranty that I purchased so no big deal. Other than having black leather interior (I live in Tucson and it's hot) this car is the best car I have ever owned. It looks good, it is spacious and god is it ever quick. I love my car!

That is well put. I have 1997 GTP that still is an eye catcher. The only problem that I have had with it is an idiot that forgot to put his truck in park at the lake and rolled into the front of my car. Busted the head lights, radiator and curled the hood up, and popped the airbags. A few thousand dollars later shes good as new again. the car has 137,000 miles. there have been absolutely no mechanical problems at all. No car is bullet proof. If people don't want any problems then they should go buy a economy Pontiac Sunfire. No power options. All high end cars have a few problems because they have a lot more complex systems on them to accommodate all the bells and whistles that people are demanding.
