Faults:

The car has a water problem in the passenger side at the blower housing. I tend to think it is the condensate line, since when parked water does not drip on the surface, as is customary for the AC system. How can I be sure of the problem? Sometimes there is a lot of water and sometimes there is a little. Rain is not the issue since it has been out in severe storms with no water. When I removed the blower, about 3-6 ounces of water came out.

General Comments:

The car is great, looks good and handles good.

Do not like the new version.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1 litre

Summary:

Kicking assl! I love this car!

Faults:

This is a typical used car. It is an awesome car. Sure, I have spent some money on the car, but it is not brand new. And seriously, I can't afford brand new. So, I guess I will have to deal with fixing stuff.

So far, I have had to replace the transmission torque converter; replaced the switch in the window control; and not forgetting the oxygen sensor thingy.

Now, yesterday I noticed that the trac off light and the ABS lights came on at the same time and they will not go off. I guess this will be another visit to the shop.

But I will not take it to the dealership.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8

Summary:

Not perfect, but perfect for me. Has never left me stranded. Will buy another

Faults:

Power steering pump was beginning to fail at 180,000. Removed and replaced on my driveway for $200.00 total.

This took two hours, but needed the dealer to remove a pulley from the old pump and install on the new one. Dealer did not charge anything.

Water leaks onto floor due to A/C drain clogging at 160,000. Cleared drain plug with a coat hanger at no cost and works fine ever since. Took 10 minutes.

Power window switch getting sticky (express down works) at 150,000. No remedy other than a new switch.

Windshield washer pump failure at 135,000. Installed a new pump on my driveway for $20.00. Took me 10 minutes.

Key gets stuck in ignition at 119,000. There is a recess hole on bottom of the steering column stick a pen in and manually release the "pawl" that "holds" the key, or better still remove the steering column cover and pop out the "pawl" from top near rear in white plastic piece.

General Comments:

Outstanding performance for a family car. GM 3.8 litre engines are bullet proof, as are 4T60E auto transmissions, which are used by both BMW and Rolls Royce.

Brakes are very good, but require frequent pad replacement.

Steering pump is a crappy design, and will fail period.

Washer fluid pump fails due to ground issues, because of its physical location near the bottom of a wheel well.

GM design is brilliant in that almost all repairs can be done easily and without a hoist, provided you have the proper tools and knowledge.

Interior, like all domestics, falls well short of German or Japanese makes.

Best of all, it's made in North America by North Americans, for North Americans, keeping profits in the North American economy.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT 3.8

Summary:

I would still buy this car again

Faults:

The fifth gear of the transmission went out after about 60,000 miles.

The drive axle and transmission are going out now at 200,000 miles.

General Comments:

I purchased my 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT used in 2003, and at that time it had 40,000 miles on it.

At around 60,000 miles, the fifth gear of the transmission went out. Luckily, it was covered under warranty.

Recently, at 200,000 miles my car started shaking really bad. I was told that it was probably the bearings. So, I just spent $700 to replace the front-end brakes, bearings, and tie-rod ends. It was still doing the same thing, so I took it to someone else and found out that my drive axle had gone out that leads into the transmission, and the transmission has to be replaced ($2000 or higher).

I have loved this car since I first got it, and would not trade it for the world, despite the problems with the transmission! I just hate that its life is almost gone. We had some good times!
