2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8L Supercharged

Summary:

Great Value and Performance

Faults:

I owned the vehicle for only 6 months, but it needed no repairs during that time. I only performed routine maintenance.

General Comments:

This is a nice car; and for the money, you can't beat it. The 3.8L supercharged motor has incredible pick-up and is regarded as one of the most durable engines ever built. the 4-speed automatic transmission was excellent and shifted awesome. The Bose sound system sounded great with my Eclipse head unit and JL 10w6v2 subwoofer. The interior had lots of room and trunk space was good.

The things I disliked about the car was it was front wheel drive; which made handling a little awkward for a rear-wheel guy like me. I must have wiped-out 3 times with the stock Goodyear radials- once across a three lane freeway! Get good tires if you plan on buying one.

The only other complaint I had was the lousy gas mileage. I bought the car after reading reviews from owners who reported 25+ MPG overall gas mileage. I got about 320 miles to the tank, or about 18.5 MPG overall. The distance to empty computer fluctuated often- and that kinda drove me insane.

Be advised that this car requires 92+ octane, so fuel costs a few dollars more to fill it.

I left mine stock, but there are tons of cheap upgrades that will put this car in the low-13's and 12's in the 1/4 mile.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Sedan 3.8L

Summary:

Reliable, Great Looks, Good on Fuel!

Faults:

The car has needed only the basic wear and tear elements replaced like tires, belts, brakes, rotors, etc. The only part that shows wear is the steering wheel... even the leather seats don't look worn.

General Comments:

Great car! No problems and I even get close to 30 MPH on the highway which is higher than the manufacturers estimates. Drove to Vermont last weekend and got 31 MPH on the highway using cruise control when I could. Definitely going to keep the car until I have to get a new one. Other than ground clearance, my car does better in the snow then my Dad's GMC Envoy in 4WD!

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3.8 supercharged

Summary:

The car handles the road great

Faults:

Purchased 2000 Grand Prix GTP with 84000 miles.

I notice the car strains to pull off in either drive or reverse, and the tTCS light flashes. Can anyone help that has had a similar problem?

General Comments:

Wonderful car. Lots of power, and gets decent gas mileage for the power.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1

Summary:

Good buy for newer model, cautious about buying high mileage model

Faults:

Head gasket replaced at 90,000.

Front end paint chipping and pitting at 30,000.

Hood faded out only after 4yrs old, repainted in 2006.

Both rear window motors failed this last year 2006.

Fuel gauge stopped working in 2005, too expensive to replace fuel pump so left it for now since fuel pump still works.

Transmission wines after it gets hot now at 140000miles.

CV Boot needs replaced on front right.

General Comments:

Handles good.

Roomy back seat, front is not as roomy.

Front seats not to comfortable for long drives.

Big trunk.

Car has 150,000 miles, has never left me stranded yet. It is very well maintananced.

2000 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.1 V6

Summary:

I really like this car

Faults:

The automatic transmission feels a little weird and sounds a little wierd in D (rive) (overdrive) if I am accelerating and decelerating a lot, in moderate traffic for example. My Dad's Buick does the same thing and his mechanic says there's nothing wrong. I run it in 3rd gear all the time and it runs just fine without the weird transmission stuff.

Based on the price of this car and the quality, I would surely buy it again knowing full well of this condition.

General Comments:

I really like this car. It is snappy and pretty smooth, and really handles well.

It gets much better gas mileage than my Cadillac, and will run on E (mpty) for seemingly forever.

There is a roomy trunk that I carry my golf clubs and 3 wheeled cart around in all the time, and I have room for the baby and the dog in the back seat.
