1998 Pontiac Montana Transport

Summary:

Great for room, but electrical problems are a nightmare

Faults:

As soon as this van hit 100,000 everything just keeps going wrong. The automatic rear windows do not work. Apparently I have to replace the mult-function switch, which is not a cheap part nor is it easy to find. We had to shut off the switch for the windows completely because there is no manual alternative for the windows. I've always had a lot of problems with the heat not feeling hot, pretty much just a lukewarm. Also the automatic sliding door will sometimes come open on its own while driving. As I have a child in that side seat, it's pretty scary. At least I get a slight warning by the dome lights flickering before it happens. Also when it's cold the automatic door doesn't work at all. And it won't shut all the way manually.

General Comments:

I have 7 kids so I really loved the idea of an 8-seater. I just wish the electric issues wouldn't be so bad on this vehice. As it doesn't give you a manual alternative to automatic, it really makes us stuck when there's an electrical problem.

Maybe a moot point to you now, but FYI/FWIW, Pontiac did a recall on this model year for that faulty door you mentioned, & one other reason too. Shame I couldn't have mentioned it sooner, but maybe it'll help... someone... someday. :-/

1998 Pontiac Montana 3.4L

Summary:

Could be the best mini van ever built

Faults:

My head gasket blew at 70,000 ks. Seats have started to wear a bit.

General Comments:

Very good vehicle.

We've had the van since 99 and I still find it fun to drive.

1998 Pontiac Montana 3.4 liter

Summary:

A piece of junk

Faults:

It's more like what hasn't gone wrong. Replaced brakes six times, bumper repainted after one year, exhaust manifold gasket replaced, water pump gasket replaced, radio led has gone out, radio volume goes up when turned down, engine replaced at 60,000 miles, battery replaced at 60,600 miles, cheap interior plastic parts, interior lights constantly fail, twice replaced tires, faulty ABS, faulty air bags, and many other things. Thank God I purchased the extended warranty. This minivan is crap.

General Comments:

I would never recommend this vehicle to anyone.

How could GM even roll this vehicle off the assembly line and sell it?

I have a 98 Pontiac Transport, beside most of the "common" problems such as... door locks don't work, ABS, doesn't work, Air bag, doesn't work, (GM dealer actually told me they couldn't fix the air bag, too many faults, it would take them too long!!!) I could go on for days!!! Radio LED replaced twice, doesn't work!!!...

Paid $1500.00 CDN July 04 for intake and head gasket replacement @ 180 km, @ 220 km it's gone again, anybody got a match???

This is the biggest piece of junk, I have ever owned.

I cutting my losses and buying a Honda or Toyota.
