1999 Pontiac Montana 3.5

Summary:

I would buy another!

Faults:

Tie rod - 28K, dealer fixed, only slightly worn.

Battery - 28K.

Passenger seat recline - 42K (took about 5 minutes and $1.50 to fix)

Tires - 46K, probably my fault for not rotating them regularly.

Brakes - 46K (just pads and turned the rotators).

General Comments:

Very responsive transmission. Plenty of power, 185HP. So far, we are very pleased. The power door is great.

The Hepa-Filter is a little expensive to replace, but I'll pay the price for filtered air! I suppose one could just remove it.

Just an Update: The display on the radio is becoming flaky and the a rear A/C valve went out.

We took it in and it was all covered under our extended warranty. So, we tell them if the radio and seat are covered, we want that fixed also. They agreed.

We get a call an hour later saying that NONE of it is covered at all! I told them that the entire A/C system is covered in our warranty. They said that the valve that went bad isn’t on the list. Well, unless you have a shop manual and compare it piece by piece to what is on the list, there is no way to know. I was told that it is all covered, they showed me a list with many many A/C items listed, what is a person suppose to think? Well, Pontiac AND GM did nothing. I got slapped with a $350 bill.

Also, the dealer tried to charge me $50 for looking at the radio. Which after they called, I said don’t fix it. I’m not going to pay $500 for a new radio. I asked why they even looked at it since it wasn’t covered. They said they had to determine what was wrong to know if it was covered. I called the extended warranty place, and ask them if the radio was covered, they said no. I also asked, could the dealer call and ask the same question? They said YES. So, I had to argue with the server manager for about 15 min before he took it off of the bill.

I still like the van. I have nothing against GM products yet… But, GM isn’t favoring to well! Looks like Honda or Toyota next time.

1999 Pontiac Montana 3.4

Summary:

A lot of vehicle for the money

Faults:

So far, so good.

Basic reason for purchasing the car was that the dealer was very easy to work with and accepted the price I offered.

I will come back here in 6 months to a year and update.

General Comments:

My other car is a 1995 Dodge Caravan. Though the Montana is slightly smaller, it meets my families needs.
